...religion.

https://www.exmormon.org/phorum/read.php?2,2140403,2140403#msg-2140403

Seriously, in FB I'm getting hit up by a pregnant 19 year old girl who was convinced to become a Rodin+Fields rep from a successful (read good saleswoman) ward member before she married and moved out.

I feel sorry for her. She is just another victim spending money they don't have. Financial success in Mormonism is akin to temporally attaining a Second Anointing and if you do it with network marketing you have done it in a way that "feels" like going to church and talking to people and talking your neighbors and friends into joining.

When my kids are parents and supporting families I think I will really come at a crossroads with this organization.

...members are taught to be driven by success. They see it in the form of $$, social standing, Church callings, etc. So, it is sad when we see family members grab onto church-based multi-level scams and other get-rich-quick devices, which, unfortunately, are doomed to fail.

Which then leaves the other family members or relatives to have to pick up the pieces of a financially-shattered family; who are also then burdened trying to piece back the life and savings of those who invested ...sad.

I'm kinda upset with my wife over this very fact. When she first found out about the neighbor's girl she was very mad. Now she is saying that the pregnant teen is an adult and need to find out for herself why this is a bad idea.

In the meantime I'm getting FB posts (I know I can filter out) in her vain attempts.

It is like a Mormon trifecta with this kid. Marries as a teen, doesn't go to college, gets pregnant right away, and into a stay-at-home mom get rich quick scam.

Here's the most awesome deal!
For only 10% of your income for life and a lifetime of blind obedience, you can get into the highest level of heaven. You'll also score extra points of you can get your friends and neighbors in on the deal.

My TBM ex-wife had the idea that God wanted her to be rich. She
thought that God had provided this way for her to become rich,
and all she had to do was find it. She fell for all kinds of
scams trying to find the one God had in mind for her.

That was over 40 years ago. She never did succeed in finding
God's plan for her acquisition of wealth.

This sounds familiar.

Only with my spouse it was the patriarchal blessing that said they would never have to worry about finances as long as they were faithful.

This was followed by several years of biting at every hook in the pond.
