Since it seems you have trouble understanding the meaning of "moral issue", we are all here to help. You keep saying that you don't meddle in politics except when moral issues are involved. Marijuana use is not a moral issue. Helping poor people with their medical costs is.

Do you understand?

And the 90% of the Utah State Legislature is acting like mini-prophets

I actually called my Utah State Senator to complain about his bill to ignore Prop 3 which a majority of voters passed in order to end-run the good ol' boys club.

As usual Medicaid expansion will fail because Utah is like the damned LDS Church, run from the top down, not the bottom up.

Yes, all our needs should be met by government. Because then it is free!

Kind of like praying to god and getting all sorts of blessings.

Speaking of morality, stealing is illegal. But government agents with guns can force me to pay for someone else's needs.

Now perhaps we could excuse that if the money taken forcibly would improve people's lives, but overall it makes things worse. Like a casino, you never get as much as you put in, and so it is with government.

Also, more government money thrown at healthcare drives up demand and then prices. So fewer people can afford it, which we use to justify more government spending, and round the drain we go.

But most of us are indoctrinated in the more-government cult.

https://www.investopedia.com/insurance/why-do-healthcare-costs-keep-rising/

"Government programs like Medicare and Medicaid have increased overall demand for medical services, resulting in higher prices. In addition, as noted above, increases in the incidence of chronic conditions like diabetes and heart disease have had a direct impact on increases in the cost of medical care since the two diseases alone are responsible for 85% of health care costs and almost half of all Americans have a chronic illness."

"The Wall Street Journal recently reported about one hospital that discovered it was charging more than $50,000 for knee-replacement surgery that only cost between $7,300 and $10,550."

Why not charge more - government will pay.

If government got out of healthcare (and education, etc), prices would plummet. In addition, if you don't have much money, eat less, and walk more, which not only would save money on food and gas, but will also reduce diabetes and other obesity related diseases, which are major costs.

But then why bother if you have "free" healthcare?

Also, money is printed to pay for the "free" stuff, devaluing the dollar and causing general inflation, driving up cost of living.

BTW, my BIL has some nice condos in Florida paid for by his big money home healthcare business, which bills medicare for stuff he sells. Big money made off programs for the poor. That is what it is all about.

Finally, a rant with no mysogyny. I knew you could do it!

Not taking the Medicaid expansion punishes one group only: the working poor. The non-working poor qualify for Medicaid. Those above 138% of the poverty level qualify for subsidized health insurance. So, perversely, the working poor are being encouraged to quit, especially if they have health problems.

The purpose of making the Medicaid expansion optional was to allow states to come up with their own program if they thought they could do it better on their own. The UT legislature has, with six years to work on it, come up with nothing. They have left the poor to twist in the wind, and left $700 to $800 million on the table each year.

Even people in ruby red Utah recognize this as perverse.

That's unfortunate. There was a lot of good material in that thread.

I don't know why the thread was nuked rather than just his bilious excretion. His hatred is phenomenal. . .

I will add, BoJ, that Free Man's Black Helicopter vision of the world blinds him to the fact that the private insurance system in the US delivers healthcare that is both qualitatively worse and vastly more expensive than the systems other OECD economies maintain.

Free Man's pseudo-economics only survives in an intellectual vacuum. If exposed to empirical analysis, it malodorously vaporizes just like Mormonism did.
