Yes, they are. The general consensus was that they are never prosecuted nor enforceable. Sodomy, adultery and fornication were all taken out of the criminal code. The opposition to the change was kind of laughable to me.
Many other states had removed these archaic laws years ago but finally Utah decided to get with the times.
Since the Utah legislature does nothing without first consulting the brethren, does this mean they're okay with fornication? And are they okay with it because they have some women on the side?
Well, it is official! The gov "quietly" signed that bill into law today. The adultery and sodomy changes were hailed as "about time" things and sailed right through the legislature but the fornication part seemed to bother more of the uptight lawmakers for some reason.
I'd imagine there's a good chance that the legislators who protested it the most are the ones who are the most guilty of it. We see that all the time ("Methinks the lady doth protest too much"). The high councilor who gave my exspouse the biggest grilling during his high council court was, as it came out a year or so later, in the middle of a 2-year-long affair himself.
gemini and I come from straight/gay marriages. We've had to walk a path that few do, but then again, far too many have to. We have our reasons for being a fornicator and an adulteress. And our lives work for us as we've both shown, having had long-term relationships with our boyfriends/fiance for gemini. If I wanted to get engaged I could. If I wanted to marry, I could.
We're too old to produce any more children.

It also gets complicated with grown children and grandchildren.
I've talked to my grown children (all TBM) about my living arrangement. They are actually very grateful for my fiance. He has been a godsend to me during some very scary health situations. He repairs all our cars and keeps them in tip top shape. We are good for each other.
At this time of my life, I will live it the way I choose and finding companionship with a straight man who loves me is what I choose. When or if we get married is going to be our decision alone.
