Our nanny is TBM. They have slowed their attendance as they out their boating, hiking and hipstering has been placed ahead of the ahead of the church.
I was glad to hear when she offered to work on Sunday.
So finally, yesterday she asked me what I thought about the disproportionate number of cases of child sexual assault perpetrated in Utah as well as the high number of porn subscriptions.
I told her I did not know, but that certainly the only thing different about Utah was the church culture and it's negative and ignorant attempt to church-splain intimate interactions and sexual limitation between humans, specially given their origins.
This conversation evolved into discussing the churches new attempt to "treat women better". I told her that yes, it is a good thing that they have taken radical steps, like pants, and prayers and leadership and even no bowing down your head and promising to be a good little lass.
BUT.
That those efforts are clearly trying to catch up with the world and save face and are further proof that the church is not inspired nor does it contain any ETERNAL, UNCHANGING, REVEALED doctrine, which is the entire basis for their claims to existence.
She then hit the cognitive dissonance wall: "Well, our friends feel that it is getting better and that is a great thing. We are all inspired and moved by it".
How this generation of Mormons cannot put their phones down for a second and think that through...You are giving support, money, time and indoctrinating your kids in an self- admitted falsehood, and moving slowly towards the light does not make one inspired.
I told her that being forced to do the right thing or to tell the truth does not make one honest.
Oy vey.
