Our nanny is TBM. They have slowed their attendance as they out their boating, hiking and hipstering has been placed ahead of the ahead of the church.

I was glad to hear when she offered to work on Sunday.

So finally, yesterday she asked me what I thought about the disproportionate number of cases of child sexual assault perpetrated in Utah as well as the high number of porn subscriptions.

I told her I did not know, but that certainly the only thing different about Utah was the church culture and it's negative and ignorant attempt to church-splain intimate interactions and sexual limitation between humans, specially given their origins.

This conversation evolved into discussing the churches new attempt to "treat women better". I told her that yes, it is a good thing that they have taken radical steps, like pants, and prayers and leadership and even no bowing down your head and promising to be a good little lass.

BUT.

That those efforts are clearly trying to catch up with the world and save face and are further proof that the church is not inspired nor does it contain any ETERNAL, UNCHANGING, REVEALED doctrine, which is the entire basis for their claims to existence.

She then hit the cognitive dissonance wall: "Well, our friends feel that it is getting better and that is a great thing. We are all inspired and moved by it".

How this generation of Mormons cannot put their phones down for a second and think that through...You are giving support, money, time and indoctrinating your kids in an self- admitted falsehood, and moving slowly towards the light does not make one inspired.

I told her that being forced to do the right thing or to tell the truth does not make one honest.

Oy vey.

as autonomous as church culture was (especially before railroad came to Utah), ChurchCo had Plenty of opportunities to set a more inclusive if not egalitarian example(s); this applies to voting, property ownership, attire, employment & wages, on and on, many not even touching church leadership.

I left the church kicking and screaming, but that happens with many things in my life. Change is hard. Oftentimes, change can be a good thing, but most of us fear it.

I'm out and I never thought I would be. It has been one of the best things I've ever done for myself. Resigning just gave me that last bit of FREEDOM from them.

My daughter isn't enjoying the changes AT ALL and she didn't go to church from ages 8 to 20, so she missed out on a lot of teachings. She is NOT pleased with the new leadership. She doesn't tell me many things about the church as she knows it gives me ammunition. The mere fact that she brought it up to me says something.

Mormons have yet to master the thought process.
Being in denial is their normal state of mind.

I think that is a great point: they are in a constant state of denial, thy call it faith.

THE CHURCH IS TRUE!

So the only effort that needs to be made by the members, should they be curious regarding old issues and new things, is to accept whatever explanations THE CHURCH deigns to offer.

Reminds of fraternity pledges getting paddled by the brothers: "Thank you, sir, may I have another?"

church child abuse might be a huge circuit breaker for organised religions everywhere. Previous generations did not recognise the severity of the problem, whereas it is now seen to be a great evil. It will be much harder for younger people to justify staying in institutions that have been on the wrong side of this problem for centuries. The Catholic Church and JWs are prime examples, Mormonism cannot be far behind.

This whole idea that the Church is going to start treating women better is a bunch of fetching bullcrap. Heavenly Father is an unchangeable God and in his true Church the way that women are treated from the beginning days of the Church until the end of all eternity is really quite unchangeable. Go study the history of the Church and see how amazingly wondrous that the women were treated in 19th century Utah. That's the way it will always be, assuming of course that this is the true Church :)

I have learned belief is blind, belief is tied to emotions not logic, I told my daughter that as long as she believed in Joseph Smith she would never know the truth about him.

I took me 30 years to get frustrated enough to investigate what I believed in.

Proof:

the No Pants in church thing ISN'T a church mandate, it's a member-woman rule/convention/expectation!

IOW, the women are sooooooooooooooooooo converted to this self-imposed condition of acceptance & fellowship, they don't need ChurchCo to show them the (claimed) need/benefits of this CULTural exclusion.

This just shows that Mo's need HQ to tell them how to change when in reality they can make greater change by not believing that B.S. anymore.

I used to always try to be an apologist and defend the church to my friends who weren't indoctrinated because I felt I needed to fit that B.S. It is so liberating to be free from it.

Yeah, but the idea is to become less horrible faster than the rest of the world, not slower. TSCC will be dragged kicking and screaming into the future. Wouldn’t it be easier if you just get up and walk?

The Mormon church is NOT getting better.

The organization is fleecing its members while insisting the fictional Book of Mormon is a message from God.

People just need to wise up and develop critical thinking skills.

Don't pay money to "churches" that take away your civil rights as an American citizen.
