They seem like pretty decent folks. I don't think the Church should have "used" them to make converts. That would be like the JWs using the Jackson Five to make converts.

I had a crush on Marie. She married a womanizer, which is her business. As a young Mormon convert, I was told that Womanizers have "no power over Mormon women". That was 40 years ago. I discovered they have ABSoLUTE power.

I'm afraid that all these super-successful people become easily & quickly jaded by hang-ers on & opportunists... Perhaps they struggle to maintain a certain genuine self (Osmonds, Ken Jennings, many others)

You might want to check Wiki again if you actually care. When I checked, it said she remarried Steve Craig in 2011. No mention was made of that marriage having ended.

She talks about Steve often, posts pictures etc. She clearly is in a happy marriage, at least by all of that

she did marry steve craig in the temple for her first marriage. find out what it takes to get a temple divorce to be sealed to another man. abuse? infidelity? then divorce the second husband and get RE-SEALED? to the first husband? smells like friends in high places or better yet, money.

While we now posit this as 'common knowledge' about the Cain thing, I don't recall that it was ever routinely taught (only researched my individual initiative).

I'm not in any position to Know or Say how much info that they had about ChurchCo teachings on black africans or any other teachings... are You?

Lies of omission. The church ultimately doesn’t know anything. There are various opinions floating around, but nothing positive. If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything. Donnie got that right.

That interview was back in the 70's folks. He was a teenage back then. So that was the going answer.

Yep. When D&M were growing up, it was consistently taught that black people (specifically of African descent) were spirits who were not valiant in the pre-existence and that was WHY they had a lower status in this earthly life. It was DOCTRINE.

But I notice that these days Mormons have downgraded the whole thing to the status of a "policy of unknown origin" just as they do with the changes in the temple rituals. I've even seen Mormons arguing with each other about what things are "policies" that can be changed without any doctrinal implications. Some have recently been arguing along those lines about the linkage between temple recommends and coffee/tea drinking.

Is it policy? Is it doctrine? Wait for the living prophet to tell you which. Whatever Simon says...er...I mean...whatever the living prophet says about it is the last word.

But wait! Where did the idea that the living prophet always trumps dead prophets come from? Is it policy or doctrine?

How many converts do you think Osmond's produced? I would guess not many if any.

I'm certain there were some. But I'd wager that practically all of them left in very short order.

(all of them females). I've lost contact with most of them over the years. I suspect that most of them moved on to other things. But I know 3 who got married to active Mormons while they were still in. That led to having/raising kids in the church and last I heard they were still regular church-going Mormons.

Visit one of their social media pages and there are also, quite few hangers-on who, if asked will reveal they were Osmond converts.

My daughter's only girlhood crush was on Donnie Osmond. She ended up returning to the Mormon church to get temple-married to a neighbor, who looks exactly like Donnie. He's younger, but he's been mistaken for Donnie several times, out in public.

Donny Osmond actually parked next to me at the Fashion Place Mall. We both were driving the same color of Suburbans which was funny. I talked with him a bit and he was just a normal guy. One thing I did notice is he seemed to be in really good physical shape.

Donny is OCD to the nth degree about his body. The perfectionist streak runs deep in him as a Mormon entertainer.

Considering his mother died of a massive stroke, that his oldest brother had a stroke this past year, and Jimmy had his second just months ago, and Tom had quadruple bypass this past year, I wouldn't call Donny taking care of his health as OCD. His workout routine when he was doing Joseph must have stayed with him. LOL. Can't look flabby in a loincloth. :)

I think that during the time that we were all in the church (for those of us who really believed in it) we were all dishonest people then. I justified wrong things that the church had done, kept their secrets, and took their side when they were being held to task about their wrong-doing. It wasn't until I resigned from the church and learned to speak honestly about it that I was in full integrity with the world around me. The term "full integrity" is a relative term. Most of us do our best and some of us do better than others.

Donny and Marie are not talking publicly and honestly about the mormon church. When they do talk about it, they lie and defend it. Until they start speaking honestly and candidly about the church, they are not being honest just as many of us have done.

If you compare Marie's early pictures from the 60's to now she's changed completely in appearance from cosmetic surgery. You wouldn't recognize her as the same person she used to be. She's had a complete body makeover from head to toe.

Which is fine because she can afford it and wants to look good for her career. But I really detest the Nutrisystem commercials where she says her stomach is now flatter than when she was in her 20's because there is no doubt she's had a tummy tuck, liposuction as well as a personal trainer.

She can't even come clean on truth in advertising. LOL.

It's all Show Biz kid!

Donny and Marie have the Mormon facade and the Show Biz facade to maintain and they are polished professionals at keeping the Razzle Dazzle on the Marquis.

I don't believe any of us, even the rest of their families, know what they really really think deep down.

Donnie is nearly as old a me. Yes. We were all taught the Mark of Cain thing from the pulpit and in priesthood and Mark E. Petersen used to preach it emphatically and NOT as a theory.

But Donnie wasn't being interviewed as a prophet or apostle. He was being interviewed as an entertainer. He protected both his facades by dodging a question. I believe he knew and he knew it was a lie, but I also believe he shouldn't have had to become the center point of the ugliness the Mormon church created regarding people of color and Cain and fence sitting and valor.

So Donnie will have to judge himself and accept his own legacy.

Unlike most performers whose religious views are rarely evident, their careers were inextricable woven with their religion. I had a friend who did set dressing on the Donny and Marie show while they were still in L.A. and he said the layer of Mormonism over the whole thing was pretty damn thick. They were always "on."

Most of the women I know back in Utah adopted and still use that sly put-down teasing comedy that is Marie's style.

As someone who has watched their careers since the beginning, at first as a young teen fan and later as someone merely interested to see them in light of Mormonism, I can say, ABSOLUTELY to your musing. I've noticed over the years that their concerted efforts to actively promote the Mormon church must be done under advisement, beginning with Olive Osmond's articles written for their monthly magazine right down to Marie's weekly Sunday facebook posts. Make no mistake about it that the Mormon church has taken full advantage of the Osmond's fame over the years and collaborated with the family...not at all by accident. (Donny even penned at least one book on Mormon beliefs many years ago coauthored by no other than Paul H. Dunn)

That sounds vaguely familiar. And now that I've thought about it, it wasn't just "Mother's Column" or whatever that was called...but many (most) of the other articles that pushed Mormonism.

The Mormon Church used the family to promote its agenda and the Osmonds willingly complied (as they still do).

They seem like nice people who tried hard to live by Mormon rules - and it invariably blew up on them.

Seems to be the story of Mormonism: things never work out as promised by the church.

I could name a ton of people just in my own circle of aquaintances who sincerely lived Mormonism, only to end up disappointed.

Why?
Because Mormonism is NOT the way and cannot deliver on anything.

The few successful members became successful IN SPITE of Mormonism, simply because they had psecial abilities or were in the right spot at the right time.
