wandering at night through the trees you can see a great horned own up on a branch. It looks exactly like a cat. Is that how the Cheshire Cat was born?

Supposedly, Lewis Carroll got the image from a carving of a smiling cat in Cranleigh village church, near Guildford where his sister lived. That's what they say in Cranleigh, anyway. I was in a boarding school there for 5 years (imaginatively called... Cranleigh School). That's about all there was in Cranleigh, actually. I like Laperla's version better.

Edward Lear was more of a 'superb owl' nonsense poet:

I
The Owl and the Pussy-cat went to sea
In a beautiful pea-green boat,
They took some honey, and plenty of money,
Wrapped up in a five-pound note.
The Owl looked up to the stars above,
And sang to a small guitar,
"O lovely Pussy! O Pussy, my love,
What a beautiful Pussy you are,
You are,
You are!
What a beautiful Pussy you are!"

II
Pussy said to the Owl, "You elegant fowl!
How charmingly sweet you sing!
O let us be married! too long we have tarried:
But what shall we do for a ring?"
They sailed away, for a year and a day,
To the land where the Bong-Tree grows
And there in a wood a Piggy-wig stood
With a ring at the end of his nose,
His nose,
His nose,
With a ring at the end of his nose.

III
"Dear Pig, are you willing to sell for one shilling
Your ring?" Said the Piggy, "I will."
So they took it away, and were married next day
By the Turkey who lives on the hill.
They dined on mince, and slices of quince,
Which they ate with a runcible spoon;
And hand in hand, on the edge of the sand,
They danced by the light of the moon,
The moon,
The moon,
They danced by the light of the moon.

A pretty part of England, though. Dinosaurs liked it.

I live on a dirt road and I found a dead great horned owl that had been hit by a car. Those owls sit on the tops of wooden fence posts at night and when cars drive down the road the owls fly right across the windshields. I'm surprised that more of them don't get hit.

I will be wondering why folks keep throwing the owl's egg.

See, this is what happens when you let your ideology do your thinking for you. You wind up posting things on the internet that you have been conditioned to believe are pearls of wisdom, but in reality are just unclever heaps of dog dung. You might as well bear your testimony: "I know that oil is true, because windmills kill birds and no one cares." If you haven't seen substantial coverage of the windmill/bird conflict, you haven't been paying attention.

Do you really believe that the trades between oil and wind are not understood?

Do you really believe that no one cares and that nothing is being done about windmill related bird fatalities?

Do you know how big the threat of windmill related fatalities is compared to other causes?

Can you objectively compare ALL of the environmental impacts of oil vs. wind, or are you content with cherry picking one problem and distorting it because fair treatment of the issue might not support your predetermined partisan bias?

Stay away from cults people, religious ones or otherwise.

I'll bet he also thinks windmill noise causes cancer, because his leader says so.

I like to keep an eye on my bird feeders and feeding station, and I would be so thrilled to see an owl in my woods. I do have a hawk who swings by every now and then, and a very handsome woodpecker. Lots of beautiful cardinals, blue jays, chickadees, etc. But no owl!

I watch Souper Bowel 1 with my dorm mates at Ricks. Zero interest in it now.

I did not watch one second of any souper bowel coverage. Was there someone of note performing at half time?

I have no idea. I watch sports sometimes but have no interest in the other festivities. I've heard of Drake but not Weekend. So I'm just teasing you.

The game, I thought, was exciting. Brady was so precise, and while he lost Mahomes looked remarkable athletically. He will be fun to watch going forward.

I watch baseball during the playoffs and some golf and that's about it for my sports.

I've watched almost no sports this last year. . . Something about cardboard fans and artificial crowd noise.

The performer is Canadian, which you may find noteworthy. The music was ok IMHO, his shoes were ugly, there were a hundred or so guys in identical creepy head bandages waving around two led flashlights each. Bizarre.

Maybe it's my upbringing but I still cannot get used to all the hype that surrounds the SB., especially all the calls to patriotism. Why are ott displays of patriotism part and parcel of sporting events, especially this one? Turning on the CBS morning show today they had a segment lauding the singing of the National Anthem for heaven's sake.

If the championship game between the NFL and the AFL is a superbowl the World Cup final must be the megabowl of sport in comparison. There they do play anthems because it a game between nations but it is a recording for each team and then on with the game. No doubt someone will say "It's tradition." But why?
