What are U.S. missionaries doing now? Any tracting, etc.? I haven’t seen any in a long time, but I’m probably at work. Heck, all I feel like I do is work.

I guess there would be more time to do that.

I heard second hand about a missionary in the Austin TX area that their apartment lost power and water. Several were moved into LDS members home that had heat.

Water was a trickle, and they need to boil it for their use.

Unable to gather anything out of the ordinary, the normal positive letter home to the parents.

They are back in their apartment, with low water pressure, but otherwise all is okay.

No word about teaching, tracking, service work, etc.

TRACTING, good buddy!

posters here have said that died with COVID.

? Do mishs have to provide their own masks, or is a "I'm A Mormon' mask standard issue (mishs required to pay, of course)

eta: I hope they're letting mishs who are disappointed with lack of religious work with 'gators to go home 'honorably' without stigma.

some are bound to think: I could be (in college) (working) (other)

Otherwise is CRAP-OLA!

When my son was on a mission in Quebec, they had that terrible ice storm. The church re-located all the missionaries to one of the LDS churches that still had power, and put them on cots until the city recovered. They had the RS sisters coming in every day to cook and clean for them. Did they do anything for the members at large? No.

If only the church had trained them to be plumbers!

If only the "Prophet" could have foreseen the need for plumbers in Texas after this freeze.

If only they had properly prepared. Think of all the people they could have been service missionaries to while repairing all the frozen pipes.

Here's a weird thing:

You get invited to a poker game, and in preparation, you fast and pray that you might win BIG.

And you ask your friends and family to do the same. So there's a unified, dedicated 24 hour fast, with sincere prayers that if it's His will, you will win BIG!

But then what happens when you do win BIG?

You get to keep all the money!!!! No tithing! Ghawd, who blessed you to win, lets you keep it all!

Then there's the dilemma of your sincere, heartfelt prayers to get laid...

They walk around Lake Sacajawea a lot. I mean, they gotta do something, right? One time when we walking around the lake and noticed the missionaries, one of them made eye contact and began coming toward us with some kind of tract in his hand. My wife said, "Hi, elders!" (She's TBM), and the guy with the tract in his hand said, "Wull, how'd you know who we are?" Duh. Don't know. Was it the white shirt and tie? Or was it the badge on his chest that said "Elder Braxton Hicks, Church of Jebus Christ of Latter-day Saints?" I'm not quite sure, but DW seemed to know they were missionaries.

The real Lake Sakakawea (and the correct "Reformed Arikara" spelling of her name) is in North Dakota, is 180 miles long, and has a shoreline of 1,320 miles.

I bet the missionaries don't walk around that one! ;)

Yeah, we got the smaller, back-up Lake Sacajawea. Just in case the other one quits working.

When I served a mission we got mistaken for undertakers in Australia, where nobody walks around in the summer wearing a white shirt, tie and suit, unless they are headed to the Morgue or representing the Morgue.

Saw a pair last summer..just walking..in white shirts...no masks...and not stopping to go to any doors..but I guess they don't do that now? Just wear out shoe leather.

They're going on FB Marketplace and offering "scripture study" around here in English or Spanish, or trying to friend people and offering free work. Around the little town I drive through on a regular basis (Santa Paula, CA) I usually see them just walking around without their BoM's so I sometimes hand them a $20 and say "Go treat yourself at 31 Flavors!" Last week I saw 4 male and 2 female mishies hanging around on the lawn of the SP chapel with a teenager who looked liked she was smitten by one of them.

So, still using deception, eh? "We'll teach you English!"

I have been wondering too, what are they doing. A friends granddaughter is getting ready to go on her mission this month. So still sending them out.

I hope they're not flying him to Detroit... I'm always leery of things that are supposed to happen on April 01.
