Here's 'a' thing about surveys:
A sampling is made of the total universe of the target population and the results are then said to represent that total universe.
Sure, why not?
Obviously, the methodology behind the sampling is crucial. You can't expect a sampling within one region of the United States to represent the entire United States. Like doing the sampling in whatever county is south of Utah County and expecting the rest of the country to agree with whatever the majority of that county said.
In the instant case, the article refers back to the survey's publication and says, "Source: American Worldview Inventory 2021, Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University; conducted February 2021, N=2,000 adults 18+."
https://www.arizonachristian.edu/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/CRC_AWVI2021_Release03_Digital_01_20210512-.pdfSo that headline is based on yakking with 2,000 Americans, 18 years old and older.
And remember, "Dewey Beats Truman!!" The surveys said so!
I have no idea what the truth is. And even if you could interview every single sentient American, by the time you finished the questioning, collating and tabulating, a certain percentage would have changed their minds.
I think it's best to concentrate on knowing what you think. Not that I've ever taken my advice...
