https://finance.yahoo.com/news/why-marriott-hotels-specific-ownership-210012901.htmlMarriott owns very few hotels. Most Marriotts are franchises; others are properties managed by the company. The article above does a high-level breakdown of the categories.
Before the pandemic, I had two annual activities that required me to travel to the same two towns each year, and in both cases, I stayed at Marriotts because they were closest to the events and had the best value.
After room taxes, the franchise fees the Marriott Corporation would receive from my stays was probably on the order of $12-$24, depending on the exact franchising fees for the hotels I stayed at which per the article range from 2% to 4% of room rates.
The dividend per payout ratio for Marriott for 2016 to 2019 averaged about 40%. Assuming (extremely) generously that my $12-$24 was pure profit, then the dividends paid out on it would have been $5-$10.
Note: the Marriott family own 18% of company shares.
I don't know whether they have a different class stock, but it looks like my stays would fund maximally $1-$2 of their dividends, and thereby maximally 10 to 20 cents in tithing.
