Jonestown, (November 18, 1978), was the location of the mass murder-suicide of members of the California-based Peoples Temple cult at the behest of their charismatic but paranoid leader, Jim Jones, in Jonestown agricultural commune, Guyana. The death toll exceeded 900, including some 300 who were age 17 and under, making the incident one of the largest mass deaths in American history.

Far from being a Christian fundamentalist in a stereotypical sense, he backed LGBT+ causes, common ownership, and called his church a "rainbow family', because of the diversity of backgrounds among the membership... and they all ended up equal in death

They did a lot of good for the community but from the start there was a lot of abuse. As with Smith, he just wouldn't keep it in his pants.

Lies and pseudoscientific nonsense are taken as "truth."

Hate and fear are now commodities that are packaged and sold to willing buyers who've been indoctrinated to consume nothing else.

Jonestown was a tragedy.

Jones had armed enforcers ("Danites"?). They assassinated a Congressman who'd come to investigate, and ringed the the area intending to shoot anyone who tried to flee the mass suicide.
