What’s going to shape what the church is in the future is what the institutions where it keeps it’s money are about. Banks, especially the bigger ones are on top of the food chain. A good example of this is Chase cancelling General Mike Flynn’s credit card account because they don’t like his political or social views. In today’s world the big bank’s call the shots. Corporations are more powerful than the buffoons who run governments.

If the church does something it’s bankers don’t like they can run into similar problems. The church is losing it’s grip on Utah. It used to be a big dog but it’s sliding back to being a little puppy. Russell M Ballard said it best in a apostle meeting that made it to the internet. The LGBTQ people can raise a lot of money quick. They have Hollywood on his side. Ballard was warning the other apostles like Boyd K Packard the church wasn’t going to easily take on LGBTQ. They were not going to be eas

Easy pushovers. Ballard was thinking like a businessman and not some religious fanatic. Money and influence is real power. Ballard is smart enough to know you don’t go up against the culture the status quo accepts. You might have your accounts canceled. The media may turn on you.

Corporations hate bad public publicity. It’s why corporations are so spineless on social issues. They side with any little group that”s flavor of the week.

The church is a corporation that needs the world’s infrastructure to operate. Money is only good if people want to do business with you. Boycotts suck. It’s board is twelve guys that are a mix of the practical and the delusional. The days of being the big dog in an isolated pond are over.

Banks love big depositors. The church is a very big depositor, particularly compared to the Flynn example. Banks will continue to kow tow to wealth.

The higher you go the smaller the church deposits become and it’s who owns the banks that make the rules. That’s a bigger club than the church. That will result in a more liberal less isolated church. Nelson already is 180 degrees from where Benson was. You would never see Ezra Taft Benson praising the pope and calling himself a global citizen. It’s called a church wanting to belong to the big club opposed to thinking you are the big club (which it was in Utah). The church is becoming a more globalist organization.

In short. The church’s wealth and global investments motivate it to be a citizen of the world instead of the peculiar people of Zion. Right now the leadership is a mixed bag of the old and new. The church is in a transitional phase.

This is silly.

The church was not forced by banks or any other outside organization to turn its back on ETB. You may not like the outcome but you can't just conjure explanations out of thin air.

As for Flynn, do you realize he was convicted of crimes of moral turpitude--lying to the FBI about contacts with Russian agents during a security clearance investigation? Credit card companies will close your account if you lie on your taxes, fail to pay your child support, or sign a bad check. Do you think treason should be treated more lightly than those crimes?

Or do you just like Flynn's politics?

Chase didn't cancel Flynn's cards. They sent a letter to Flynn's wife about cancelling her cards, but later retracted it claiming that that original letter was sent in error. Chase never closed her accounts.

Yes, I read that. The note also mentioned reputational risk, so it may have had something to do with Flynn himself.

I decided not to argue that point with Rubicon because even if his interpretation is/were correct, it wouldn't change a thing. Lying on a security clearance that would give someone access to the country's most sensitive secrets is more than enough to cancel that person's credit card.

But they don't cancel your credit card for joining the Mormon church. Go figure.

Probably because too many Chase customers raised a stink.

Again, you miss the point.

Credit card companies routinely cancel cards when a person is convicted of a crime of moral turpitude, generally meaning a felony. Flynn pleaded guilty to multiple felonies.

Why wouldn't the credit card companies' rules apply to him?

The church of Mormon doesn't care. Okay?

Rubi and the Trogs are turning on corporate America for being excessively liberal?

There's a candidate for "Irony of the Week" Award. It's not like the Trogs are in any kind of position to be burning bridges these days.
