Brad Wilcox spoke tonight. A good part was about a story of a young teenager in the Church who had a porn problem plus I guess other problems that go with it. Wilcox talked of his struggle and then how he with the help of his Church leaders was able to learn to love Jesus and over come the problem. Here are my concerns.
1. Young women listening are going to think that alot of the young men in their ward have this problem. That should give deacons, teachers and priests some guilt feelings.
2. According to Brad, to overcome the problem you have to love Jesus. Not yourself but love Jesus. Loving Jesus is a very adult thing to do. I think a lot of young men do love Jesus in their own private way and are going to bed tonight wondering why they still have a problem. Loving Jesus is a very adult concept if you really step back and look at it.
3. Wilcox made the fix easy. Start with a simple thing you can do and just continue to make simple steps. Example and I am adding to Wilcox's talk. Dont do it for a week. Then at end of week set a goal not to do it for another week.Continue this and continue to love Jesus. Problem solved!!! As a professional counselor I can not imagine how many young in the Church have tried that approach and failed. So some young men are going to bed tonight wondering why its not working.
4. It was a terrible talk by someone working with young men. I am going to rewatch this again when I calm down. I am wondering if:
a) Brad had this problem as a teenager and did not get any resolution
b) Brad has a porn problem as an adult today. There was something about his talk, his delivery that makes me wonder.

Folks I work with young people and I do not think the average young man sees porn as a problem. Nor do they watch much of it. I do not think young people watch porn as much as Church leaders think they do. Its part of growing up. Lastly is porn in the Church only a young man's problem? What about young women? I just feel bad for young men tonight.

I was at the Priesthhood conference when Packer talked to us young men about playing with our little factories. I sat through lots of Priesthood classes as a young man when that topic was talked about. I remember one priesthood meeting we were told to tie our hands to the bed so as not to touch ourselves. Tonight was very similar talk..

I find it interesting that a very large number of mormon males learn about masterbation from the bishop.

That first interview at 11 or 12 when they are asked about it. Then on to eternal damnation as they ponder what is so awful about it and eventually test it out.

I think the young women have it worse. They are often blamed for they guys having "impure thoughts".

I was first asked about masturbation as a 12-year-old girl. I had no clue what it was. I got the idea that it was if you even touched yourself even when washing yourself taking a bath. I didn't even dare scratch.

So I never found out what masturbation really was until I was 25. I was VERY naive. I don't know how I got that far along without knowing, but I think that it had something to do with not having to talk to leaders about anything sexual as I knew I might have to kill myself first. Sooooo, I found out what masturbation is for males because I was assigned to keep track of my boyfriend's masturbation habits as if we could get him to stop masturbating, we could get him to turn straight. AND I had no idea in a million years that guys had hard ons AND I for sure didn't know women could masturbate UNTIL the bishop told me all this. Yep. Then go experiment and see if your gay boyfriend can be turned on by a woman. Hey, wait a minute--ME?

What those leaders did to me was criminal--but it is criminal what they do to all the members of their so-called church.

Just the same nonsense. It’s ridiculous.

And plus: Mormon girls are taught that the primary criterion for a husband is that he be temple worthy. Then the chase is on to find a young man who is temple worthy, which means one who does not masturbate. The pool then quickly becomes limited not to those who never do it, since everybody does it, but the young men who have no qualms whatsoever about lying. Such a wonderful basis for a celestial marriage!

They weren't shooters. They were boulders.

When I imagine a god, I like to think it gave us masturbation as a gift so that even if our lives aren't going that great, even if we don't have a partner, we can make ourselves feel good, take us away from ordinary life for a while.

And no one gets pregnant or spreads diseases.

But Mormonism hates masturbation because even a bad orgasm is better than most testimonies.

The thread creator opines about whether or not the guy giving the talk had porn and porn related ‘problems’.

In my opinion they’re all wankers. Interpret that however you want

They need to teach youngsters to be glad for their body parts, being a guy has lots of advantages and privledges, instead its guilt and shame, also that nocturnal messes are normal,

I remember the claim about tying hands to the bed to keep from playing with Tom Johnson. On closer analysis, it's at least as ineffective as Wilcox's tips. It would take a slipknot to get both hands tied and that carries a risk of cutting off circulation to the hands. Otherwise, you could tie one hand, but the other would be free.

Of course, you could circumvent these problems by having someone tie your hands for you. Said person could also discipline you as well. I recommend agreeing on a safe word before trying this method.

So you could say My Hands Are Tied
I like mine hands free, but that's just me

I'm just imagining impressionable young Brad in, say, 6th Grade, and snickering schoolmates (who are just learning the naughty ways of the world): "Hey, Wilcox! Bradley Will--cocks... oh...WILL...COCKS!!"

Every year - well, let's say most years - I tell myself I won't get sucked into the Festival of Brainwashed Nonsense, but then something happens and I end up watching some of it. And it strikes me as even creepier and more ridiculous and offensive than the last time I got sucked in, and I wonder how anyone can sit through that and take it seriously.

Last night I stopped by RfM to check on something I saw on Facebook. I ended up replying to one post and read a couple others, including this one. Mostly I was just kind of "Oh, yeah - it's that time again." I wondered who Brad Wilcox is, but not enough to look.

Then today I saw that one of my few Mormon Facebook friends had posted the quote "Worthiness is not flawlessness"--Bradley R. Wilcox," and a bunch of their brainwashed nonsense-loving friends raved about how amazing it was and how much they loved it (in that way that Mormons love things), and I was curious.

Off I went to brainwashednonsense.org - but first I had to google to find out who Bradley R. Wilcox is and what he looks like so I could easily locate him in the video. Professor of Ancient Scripture at BYU ... LOL!

I watched the whole thing - ten pasty, breathless, increasingly sweaty, probably secretly gay minutes. Once again I was some combination of dumbfounded and horrified. Once again I questioned my normally witty friend's intelligence, and once again I need to repent from watching the Festival.

Was there also a talk about mental illness? Hopefully I won't feel compelled to watch it. :p

Not to hog everything, but popular to contrary belief amongst some of the Saints, the fastest growing demographic amongst watchers of adult entertainment are women 17-35. If they are watching, maybe they should listen to wilcox.
