I don’t feel quite as cynical in my belief that a driving reason for temple announcements and construction is to convey an illusion of growth.

Take a look here:

A quote:

“ The Latter-day Saints church is growing at a fast pace, as evidenced by its list of newly and soon-to-be built temples.”

But but but, it cannot help do anything except grow ..

After two long years of disaster with tremendously unexpected pandemic shrinkage.

Just wait for the beancounters to push the new new percentage numbers!

"we've achieved growth figures not seen in decades"

If your testimony lasts longer than 4 hours, consult your metaphysician.

“The investment portfolio of the Latter-day Saints church is growing at a fast pace, as evidenced by its list of newly and soon-to-be built temples.”

There, that's better.

The mormon numbers in Idaho likely are growing...but only from all the Californians moving there.

I helped conceive my first (known) child in Idaho...

No further details are available at this time.

Ok folks lets set the record straight.

Even though the number of members are falling, the number of wards declining and stakes are merging. You simply don't get the point.

The real estate, stock and bond portfolios are growing more than ever.

The corporation errr church is indeed growing.

Here is a corporation that continues to explode with financial growth. Must be billions upon billions that the church racks in with their financial planning. And every year each LDS Corp department is likely ordered to further trim their budget and reduce costs. There probably is a bragging meeting where each chairman reports how little the church has spent while watching the bottom line.

And despite all this merry greed and wealth, their outward appearance of a church stymies their desire to show members how grand the church is really doing. They have to rely on the deception of merging wards, stakes and missions to spin the idea that the church is growing. They can't openly boast about all the money their funds are generating. So they keep building temples to show the gospel is covering the face of the earth.

Gimmie the date Jehovahs Wittnesses change their name to LDS because it is only one short cash deal away!

God will speak to the Prophet's profits.

The people are truly only pawns.

Maybe I'm just waiting for the one single line.

"I don't know that we teach that, anymore."

I can hardly believe I've just about seen things I thought that I'd never see happen.

But then again, MormØž-ism will be fine, they'll likely pull out of this one too!

Where's that White Horseman Guy, O'l whatshitsname?

From the article regarding the Pocatello temple.

As a member, I would expect some sort of special message about a temple. Such as, members can and do have miraculous experiences at the temple. Or perhaps, my favorite place is to be sitting in the temple doing ordinance work.

Instead, members will have to lick their chomps on this little nugget from Ballard.

"I’ve been a general authority for about 45 years, so I’ve been in temples all over the world,” he said.
