the BNSF crosses the canadian border in ~ 3 places in Washington State:
the former GN at Blaine, WA / White Rock BC
the former NP at Sumas, WA
others ?
the recent (11/16/21) flooding caused the track to wash away at Sumas which resulted in about a dozen rail cars that were static in a siding being derailed & some on their sides.
Companies used to send a 'wrecker' out to such sites, but currently most all re-railing is done with bulldozers & cranes brought to the scene by highway.
Also, the former GN sub between Seattle & Everett which hosts sounder commuter service was discontinued for passenger service (commuter + Empire Builder) as a precaution regarding possible slides along Puget Sound which have been troublesome for many, many decades.
there's been talk of returning Amtrak Cascades as far North as Bellingham, but this hasn't happened yet.

I worked on that division during my college years; in the mid-50s the eastbound Empire Builder was washed into puget sound without any serious injuries.
I was in either elementary or jr hi, I walked about 3 miles from home to the site, my dad was a GN employee for his entire career except for being in the army WWII
