Mike Lee recently claimed that Democrats "hate democracy".

I guess this is his idea of a good way to earn respect for his honesty, dedication to the country, patriotism, etc.

He seems to need someone to tell him what to say in any given situation. He has no concerns about actually thinking about what he says, defending his views, or hypocrisy.

I think they will vote him in again. People apparently are fine with him being extreme and lying about his role in the demise of democracy.

I'm so ashamed to have been associated with BYU, based on his family alone.

From my perspective--I'm a never-Morg--one of the goals of the Morg church is (has always been) to get people to stop thinking and just OBEY--which of course includes obeying how the church wants you to vote and think.

And of course, that's despite the church's many pious pronouncements to the contrary. Old habits die hard.

I think it was Ezra Taft Benson who said that there was something very wrong with the Democrats, and that Mormons shouldn't vote Dem.

(Hmm...now, is there ANYTHING in Mormonland that's named to honor Benson?)

And you know, that's why discussions here ranging far & wide are not problematic.

Those recently free are disoriented from a sudden lack of right-think so are a little bit lost (remember what that was like?)
Here we've learned to think for ourselves, can come to opposing conclusions, and still get along fine at the end of the day.

Part of recovery is learning how to think, and we're demonstrating here with a world of topics what that looks like. More or less.

I think that one time in a talk Benson said that it is impossible to be a Democrat and a good Mormon (yeah, he said "Mormon" LOL)
A good friend was teaching at the BYU Law School at the time and a student approached him and asked if that was true. My friend's response was, "Yes, and people like Benson are the reason why."

And I believe there is agriculture facility at BYU that is, or at least was, named after Benson.

We live in a country filled with people who revel in contradiction, racial animus, and ignorance. Unfortunately the majority who are rational and decent just don't care enough to vote.

In recent years, I have had quite enough of self-styled patriots. As a retired military member, I am not impressed. Shouldn't those who served be the ones defining what patriotism is?

The lunatic fringe of any organization have very poorly developed senses of irony. If they had a sense of the absurd, they would be embarrassed to be in the lunatic fringe.

Mormons in general, and Lee in particular, are not good at recognizing irony. "Captain Moroni" my a**. Lee should have been disfellowshipped for blasphemy for that crack.

NO SURPRISE HERE! BYU---BOTH Undergraduate degree and Law degree.
