I think the biggest issue is that we as a group are no longer engaged with the church on that level.
10-15 years ago, when so many were negotiating their membership or their withdrawals, we paid a lot of attention to conference. Some would post summaries of the talks, etc. But now nobody really cares anymore.
From the church's perspective that is a problem. When people were engaged, even critically, they still took Mormonism seriously.

The Correlation Committee, who write all the talks, have painfully learned their lesson about letting the leaders say what's really on their mind. They can't bad-mouth The World too much, and they certainly cannot risk alienating their key supporters. So they end up restricted to the blandest things they can think of. Or am I mistaken?

I think you’re exactly right. They can’t come across as hopelessly out of date to the majority of people, and they can’t seem up to date with societal trends to the older, faithful tithe payers, so they use a bunch of worn out phrases to say essentially nothing.
things on fb. I just scrolled by. I always expect it.
I agree with those above who said a lot of us have been out for a while and we aren't interested, but I never was except the time they changed it so kids of gays couldn't be members, but I think that was just a revelation and not at conference. They didn't announce the end of it at conference either.
Anything I do hear seems to be watered down mormonism.
I think many members are still trying to adjust to Nelson's ongoing restoration. He really has taken much of the Mormon culture out of the church with his Christ centric policies.
Think about it, many members liked the weird prophecies and the prepping for the end of the world. And that is largely gone or deemphasized.
I think it is fair to say that the church has evolved since the year 2000. Obviously members like the 2 hour block, but do they really enjoy church more? Probably not.
