A three-slot (dime, nickel, quarter) pay phone was the only phone in our fraternity house.

I learned the very archaic art of spinning a penny from the quarter slot into the dime receptor.  Talk about a lost art...

My brother and his fraternity brothers -- many of the engineers -- figured out how to game pay phones to make long distance calls for free. Boys need to stay busy. :)

I think it was Georgia. We were in the Midwest. People were lucky if anyone answered the phone unless it was “phone duty hours” 7-10pm.

Back then I was Sam Hall. Does that count??

Sorry, I totally disagree with this notion of blocking people's banks on account of their beliefs. It's all fine and dandy until it starts happening to people of your own viewpoint. A very slippery slope.

Bingo! This is the mistake that many make. If we want to see if a law/rule/policy is fair, ask whether it would be ok if the "other side" were in power.

I think that Westboro Baptist Church would meet it. When you start disrupting the funerals of perfect strangers, you've crossed a line. They are hateful people.

But it doesn't seem fair for them to be miserable all by themselves.

When they start using their billions to fund terrorism.

For me the buck stops when you try to tell non-Mormons how to live their lives, i.e. California's Prop 8 fiasco. I don't know that it makes the church a "hate group" per se, but church authorities definitely need to stay in their lane at a minimum.

I am not opposed to the church making itself look bad.

freedom of expression and freedom of association still stand and are important.

Once we let the federal government decide what constitutes "hate", that definition will change when the pendulum swings.

Let the church kill itself - with it's hateful positions.
