She was a first cousin of one of my great-grandmothers, if I recall correctly. The link runs through the Bonham Carter family.

Hey, some of Florence Nightingale's possessions and photos are going to auction - how I'd love to have the sepia ones of her - or any at all for that matter.

Original photos (sepia yet - my favourite!) of my lifetime heroine - wow.

The auction estimates seem on the low side but I guess it depends on how much interest there would be in the items. I hope a museum swoops in the keep the collection together, and preserved.

    Thanks to this thread, I have noted that I have lived a day and a few hours longer than my dad.  I'll admit that it was a goal I wanted to attain.  But it's not all that remarkable, given the increased abilities of medical science to diagnose and treat the frailties to which old people are heir.

    Now, if I can make it to my mom's age of 98 at her untimely death due to a fall, I'll feel quite privileged!  Imagine me on this board for another 20 years!!

You have an extensive record on this board and no one would reach the mistaken conclusion that you are snarky.

They'll be attached to news clips, special issues at check-out stands, etc., commemorating people of note who died in 2023. RfM could have an on-going thread to note and discuss such passings, rather than start a fresh one every time. Title it, "Deaths and Passings," or something. If somebody of interest to you dies, you could add it to the bottom with your own thoughts and feelings.

Most of the regular posters on RfM are getting old, and the people -- entertainment celebrities especially -- we know and revere are also in this cohort. This issue could really clutter up the threads.

Indulge me, if you will, this little food for thought, prompted by Nightingale's starting post:
