If you can access the SL Trib, there is an article describing the abuse Franke's kids endured, including excerpts from her diary.

https://www.sltrib.com/news/2024/03/22/ruby-franke-records-police/

A couple of excerpts

"The women appeared to fully believe that the abuse they inflicted was necessary to teach the children how to properly repent for imagined ‘sins’ and to cast the evil spirits out of their bodies,” the news release states. It adds that the children suffered emotional abuse “to the extent that they came to believe that they deserved the [physical] abuse.”

"When prosecutors on Friday identified “religious extremism” as the motivation behind Franke and Hildebrandt’s abuse, they did not specify what church the women affiliate with or attend.

The first unredacted entry in Franke’s journal, however, notes Hildebrandt received a blessing May 21 from a person she identifies as a local Latter-day Saint temple president.

About three weeks later, Franke’s journal indicated, Hildebrandt also traveled to Salt Lake City on June 13 to meet with two leaders from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints."

There is a shorter story here

https://www.abc4.com/news/8-passengers/massive-document-trove-reveals-terrifying-insights-into-franke-hildebrandt-child-abuse-abc-news-to-air-special-tonight/

It's also the subject of 20/20 tonight.

and

Seventy Jeremy Jaggi

I don't do social media.

But it has just hit YouTube and the videos (from Law&Order) are really racking up the views.

I haven't seen any "Linkage" between what's being portrayed and la iglesia mormona.

I'm watching it now.
What a weird bunch.
They definitely associated them with the church, and even used the church's full name!

The crazy thing to me was that the mom was abusing the kids, but she had her husband pushed out for a year to get "help" because he was ...(drum roll)... looking at porn. She said, "I'm not naughty. I'm a good girl." She seems to think porn and sex are the big sins.

Jody the counselor was way into amplifying porn as a giant issue, and the church was all about working with her about it. Jody seems like the one obsessed about sex/porn, IMO. She is one weird lady who did a lot of damage.

The story is extra sad because the oldest daughter had been asking Child Protective Services and the police to help for a year or so. Utah didn't do much to follow up.

Ruby mentions the devil a few times, like a religious nut (IMO).

They did include a little bit of a church guy talking about how Mormon kids are obedient. There were lots of temple pictures.

The general public is going to associate Lori Vallow and Ruby Franke together, IMO. This is not helping what people think about Mormon moms and Mormon families.

Trib: "Utah parenting influencer Ruby Franke and former mental health counselor Jodi Hildebrandt inflicted last summer on two of Franke’s young children."

Where did Jodi go to school? The CIA's school for interrogators? Did she try waterboarding to flush out the demons?

This is why I'm leery of the mental health profession. Many practitioners are the ones in need of help.

I hope that the LDS church will excommunicte Jodi and Ruby. Sam Young got excommunicated for protecting LDS children.

The LDS church enabled them. The LDS church made them richer than some countries. The LDS church would first need to excommunicate most of their top leaders.

Reddid said that Tim Ballard got excommunicated very fast why can’t the lds church excommunicate Jodi and Ruby?

There have been a number of people here who have written about parents who were in the same ballpark as these two. A few that come to mind - Don Bagley's dad, Cheryl's mom, Punky Dilemma's "my father, the anus", the poster whose dad was a chiropractor. And we're not that big a group.

I bet most wards have at least one person who qualifies as a religious nutcase, and many wards have a small clique of nut jobs. Mormonism breeds way more than its fair share of them. And among Mormon fundamentalists, I would think most of them qualify as religious nutcases.

The first unredacted entry in Franke’s journal, however, notes Hildebrandt received a blessing May 21 from a person she identifies as a local Latter-day Saint temple president.

I think that's Mormon code for a Second Annointing in the temple.

It's kind of disappointing that truly horrible people are treated as VIP, cream of the crop just because they are extreme narcissists who continually promote themselves. Those of us who spent real time with these church leader monsters can see through their facade real quickly.

I seriously doubt that is code for a second annointing. I have an uncle who was a temple president, and he was always getting pestered by extended family members for blessing for whatever they felt was wrong in their life.

I think they mostly did it so they could brag that they got a blessing from a temple president - the usual humble-brag about being part of the in-crowd.

Ruby compares herself to Joseph Smith.

God told her with the spirit "your children will be removed".

She had the martyr thing down too.

Jesus was persecuted.
JS was persecuted.
Now she was being persecuted too.

That made her and Jody even more convinced they had righteous motives.

People like this make the ranch concept irredeemably creepy. Didn't church people wonder where the kids were? What about school? It seems like local church members/leaders should have wondered what was up?

That brave young boy, escaping, and saving his sister. I trust they will receive all the best care and love that some normal folks can give them.

Nightingale I assume that Ruby must have taken her children out of school and said that she would homeschool them. I saw a video of her son R going to the neighbors house to get help and he looked very skinny.

Oh yes, likely she opted for "home schooling". The article did say the son was looking undernourished. Heartbreaking.

Can we 100 pc blame moism when some people are completely OTT to put it mildly?

No outsiders would believe it's the church's fault as the behaviour is so out there.

If you watch the ABC 20/20 episode, you'll see that the Franke-Hildebrande disaster was fundamentally Mormon. This could not possibly have happened independently of the church.

Voltaire once said, “Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.”

Mormon belief has resulted in a lot of atrocities:

Mountain Meadows Massacre
Blood Atonement
Multiple Indian Massacres
Racism
Polygamy (Much of it forced)
Violence against LGBTQ members
Lafferty Brothers
Kidnapping of Elizabeth Smart
Warren Jeffs
Chad Daybell and Lori Vallow
Kidnapping of Blaze Theaubaudeau
Tim Ballard
Ruby Franke and Jodi Hildebrandt.
etc.

The temple president who gave Jodi a special blessing has his discernment radar broken. He should resign.

Steve Caplin is the mission president listed in the journal as giving the blessing. What a bone head he is. Blessed her to be a wicked witch!"
