Dear Mother Earth,

Happy Earth Day from your most destructive and invasive species.

We bought you some plastic flowers.

Love, Humans

Thank you Dagny, I would have skated right through the day without even knowing about this important day.

And, may I add some plastic flowers to compliment your plastic flowers?

Too bad that’s edited.

Lots and lots of cussing in the transcript. Because, Carlin.

Who knew such cynicism could be funny? And sad? And true?

My first experience with Earth Day was when I got into BYU after my mission ended in February 1971, I signed up for a few"block" classes. Like my usual dorky self, I had no idea what ecology was. Before my mission I don't remember the word "ecology", except in a Peanuts cartoon. I had to ask what it meant. A ward member came to my door gave me a pamphlet and invited me to join the ward on Earth Day -- we were going to re-whitewash the Y on the mountain! I gamely went, having no idea what painting the Y had anything to do with saving the planet. We all got issued a T-shirt with that ecology symbol in green on the front; I have no idea who paid for the shirts. Anyway, a good time was had by all.

LOL. How they were able to link slapping paint on a mountain with Earth Day and ecology makes as much sense as everything else they do!
