I know ex-Mormons do not like to pay for anything :-). It comes with our background of having been taken by the Mormon church. We have just reached a point of personally paying out of pocket and expecting too much from a couple of people who have helped us. Our goal is modest - $2000.

Many have stated that we should go to other ISPs, we may still do that, for lower costs. In any case, we still need the funding.

Please consider helping. Take a look at http://www.exmormon.org. As soon as we raise the amount, the donations request will cease.

Thanks

Eric

We have been struggling with the high volume. Wingnet, our ISP, has offered to move us to a dedicated server of which we will have full access. Our monthly rate will jump to $135/month along with tech support services.

We have an individual who pays our $105/mo basic rate right now. We are raising money to pay the difference, the set up time and tech support as we hire them to improve the site. The new archive area, which is still developing, is an example.

Faster responses on the board along with better archiving should vastly improve the site.

I am hoping for $10 - $40 donations that should take us only a few weeks to raise $2000. I am personally out $600 in the past few weeks and losing interest in paying any more out of my pocket.

You could always implement my idea, and charge a dollar every time someone starts a Mitt Romney thread. Two dollars for starting a duplicate thread of a story already on the board. You'll raise enough money in a month to pay for years of hosting.

(only joking, no one in their right mind would do that)

Eric, Thanks for all you do. It's nice to have a chance to give back for the many years I've benefitted from RfM. The principle of reciprocity and all--not a gospel principle but a human nature principle.

It would be great if you left the link up to give people easy access to contribute when they are so (for lack of a better word) inspired.

Thanks to you and to Susan I/S for providing for so many a safe place to fall...no pun intended. ;)

Donated. Thanks, Eric, and all those who support this site.

ETA: I believe in giving to groups who provide valuable services. I wouldn't mind giving on an annual basis, I would just have to be reminded and provided with a fairly easy method to do it (like the one you have up now).

Glad to help out.

ps. keep it up long enough for us to cover what you've spend out of your own pocket in the last few weeks.

He's not even asking us to give the milk strippings if we don't have the cash to cover it. I gave what I could, because I was, well in all honesty too lazy to donate the last time they tried raising some funds for the ISP. But now I did.

Whether it's $6 or $600, it's a drop in the bucket in comparison to the mormon mega-mall. And so much more beneficial to the worldwide community.

You're drowning in a river. Some guy who happens to own his own lifeline business comes along and throws you one. You survive. You find out there are thousands of others who have been saved by the same business and you instantly connect, you have a support group of people who keep each other from falling into the river again. Sometimes you think you're so far away from the bank and will never be at risk of falling in again. Then next thing you know, you're on the edge again, you're so close you can feel your feet slipping. But your friends are there and rescue you. You vow to pay it forward, to be there to call for the lifeline when you see others in the river trying to figure out how to save themselves.

One day, the guy who owns the business says, "hey, lifelines are getting a little harder to come by. We need just a little help to re-stock our supply. I don't want anything for myself, I won't charge for the countless hours I put into the business, but I'd kinda like to make sure we can always rescue people from the river. Can anyone help just a little?

Trust me, the only thing people are thinking is "I wish I could give more."

This site helped me greatly to make my way out of the church around 15 years ago. Big ups to Kathy Worthington RIP also!

Nowadays it's mainly comfort food for me, but I still visit almost daily; mainly just to keep up with what's going on with the church since ALL of my family (I'm 6th gen BIC) remains active (as far as I know).
