Hello all -- I might have missed this. Now that the missionary age has been reduced? Has there been a similar occurrence in the past? Previous missionary age at 22? 25? When did the church officially set the mark at 19 for men and 21 for women? I tried to scour the internet and couldn't find this information. Anyone?

I believe after WWII, and the death of Heber J Grant, the official missionary age was lowered from 21 for men to 19 by George Albert Smith. I have no documentation to that effect, but I am old! Hopefully, that gets you in the ball park of an answer.

I seem to remember that a young man who was part of Zion's Camp March was sent on a mission by JS and he was only 15. I wish I could remember, but it's been years since I read church history.

It slowly comes back. The individual I referred to above was sent as a Priest.
