And of the Word of Wisdom were not socially codified the way it is, many Mormons consume as much caffeine as coffee in chocolate and fountain drinks. Add that to the tithing . . .
and either way, you're pissing away your hard-earned cash.
It is not rude. We empower these pathetic companies instead of brewing our own coffee (which I do by the way) not because I cannot afford. Starbucks is in the business of exploiting your taste buds, I don't see much difference paying tithing or buying cup of coffee there.

Swearing at a member of staff IS rude. The member of staff doesn't set the price. You vented your anger at the wrong target.
Totally. IT WAS RUDE. Employees can't do anything about the price of the product. You need to bitch out the VPs not the high school girl making min wage. Get a clue.
He ordered a latte. Was it a triple or a quadruple shot or something? How many shots they usually put in a venti? I only order double tall nonfat latte's myself. They're around $3 something. If you want a huge cup of coffee, why not just buy a large cup of coffee at 7-11 or something? Or Mickey D's?
I can make a latte that kicks the crap out of Starbucks for abot 30 cents a cup. People are just too lazy to make it themselves. Also false dichotomy argument. Many exmos don't like coffee.

That's a good point. But... there's only one of you and so many Starbucks! ;o))
I have, on my desk, a Starbucks City mug, which is a country mug. It has a Welsh dragon (Cymraeg y Ddraig) and it bears the name Cymru.
It's not hard to brew a good cup of coffee at home. All it requires is a grinder and a coffee maker. You add cream/flavours/sugar to taste. Simple, efficient, environmently friendly.
Then again, the coffee I brew is so strong it might make your hair stand on end. And I drink it black.
Be Mormon or you'll have to pay five dollars for a cup of coffee.
Of course I'm not Mormon and don't drink coffee so I guess I dodged that bullet. And that's not even mentioning all those people like my daughter in law who actually grind and prepare their own coffee.

My late novermo granny loved Postum. She developed a taste for it whilst living in Canada as a young girl.
Perhaps the girl at the counter misunderstood but It pissed me off when she asked $6.25. I make plenty money to afford it, even if I was making ten times over what I am making I would not pay it. It is like; would I travel Emirates to Asia in a first class cubicle & bed of my own?

That's about £3.90. Just under £4.00. Depending on the size and what coffee it was, that doesn't sound too much, IMO.

Not Starbucks though. At least you have another option besides Mormonism. you can drink coffee during the church services and it's all free, donations accepted.
all their coffees in any sizes including cappucinos for .79c and they are yummy...it was fun cause I don't know anything about coffee and was embarrassed to go to Starbucks and look like an idiot trying to figure out what was what. At this place they have little cups so you can try all the different coffees and cappucinos and see what everything tastes like super cheap. I can't compare to anyplace else but the cappucinos were very very good, quite mild which was fine with me. They also have all the syrups and etc you can add and also hot chocolate you can mix in if you want.
it's do it yourself which is nice. Starbucks probably does that too but it's a little intimidating if you are an adult that knows nothing about coffee.
Wow, this thread really drives home to me what it must feel like to think coffee is sinful. Wow, just wow. I grew up drinking coffee, my mom would give it to me when I was a kid (mostly cream and sugar) so I would feel all grown up. Never thought it could possibly be taboo, never occurred to me.
I have yet to figure out how places like Starbucks is worth the $5 or $6 or $7 they charge...highly over-rated, IMO, but at least I know where my money is going the few times my buckage goes in that direction. I'm not sinking my money into a black hole known as tithing and LD$ Inc. and my family won't be shunned from my wedding as a result of it. People who don't spend five bucks on a cup of coffee are still treated as family and friends...how weird is that?
