I have non-Mormon Christian friends and members of ext. family. The standard question when I say I've met a new friend or so is "Oh, is she/he Christian?" When joining an association/club of some kind the question is rephrased: "Are there any Christians there, though?" "Do they drink?" ... I don't think it's just a Mormon thing.

I don't think it's more righteous or official either way. In the UK, many churches use the "Ahh-men", while in the US many churches use the "Aim-men". I don't see it as a problem, unless you think fo the word itself. I mean, why should that word be used? I was a member of the Swedish Liberal Party when I first came in contact with the missionaries and the church. I was at the time very non-compromising when it came to freedom of religion.
