Some are surprisingly good. But don't ever, EVER eat in the Swiss temple cafeteria. The food looked and tasted like puke.

I think it will become more like the Amana, once a religion, but now a major producer of household appliances. Only with Mormons, it's more likely to shed the religion for lucrative land development across the nation and around the world

'Lo, I am now living in Springville, UT. No laughing, please. It's already humiliating enough. I was the big loser in the decision. I was just the dad trying to hold onto my beautiful home in SW Washington (Longview, off I-5, across the River Columbia from... Essentially nothing, just Rainier, OR. Anyway, I had a weekly get together with other curmudgeonly old guys who were woke like me. I dar

Well, brand new arrival in Springville, Utah, and I don't know how to proceed in life. I'm surrounded by faithful members who rally behind in a most un-Christian way, and think it's fine to be racist. I find most Utahns incredibly shallow, too, always shopping and eating out as an integral part of life. Tell me how to cope. Please.

Well, the church is always trying to say that they supported both human rights and while appeasing the fascist government, without explicitly telling what was going on. For the sake of continueing missionary work, the church had jumped onto the Nazi bandwagon as a ploy to allow the church to continue operating in Germany. Besides, J. Reuben Clark himself was pro-Nazi and anti-Semitic; I'm thinkin

A man grabbing another man's hand to "shake" while gripping the guy's hand painfully and pulling the guy back and forth is a classic power play. In the 1970's while attending a military branch, the district president was a lowly AF captain who bullied us all relentlessly, and would do this, but would also grip your right elbow with his left hand and push you into him while getting no mo

No. The linen sheet placed over the sacrament came about by the need to keep flies off everything. I'm serious. But because they keep one side exposed during the prayer, many members have thought that if you said the bread prayer while the water was exposed, it would confuse and anger our omnipotent God. This actually led to an altercation once on my mission right before the meeting because someo

Most Mormons don't know -- or care -- about their own religion it mystifies me that they're so eager to perform, but haven't a clue about the history and the actual current doctrines of the church.

A friend of mine who used to occasionally comment on RfM had that very thing happen to her -- blamed for her husband's unfaithfulness. It's a sure-fire way to lose a female member.

I'd go with the comment above about living your best life and being HAPPY about no longer being a member of The Corporation of the President. It infuriates many Mormons when you reject the church but God doesn't strike you with disease and poverty, or when you're happy despite all the church's messages that you are doomed to unhappiness.

I talked with DW about this when reading the articles about GC. She disagreed with me, and talked only of how nice it was that the wife was willing to help with the child. Or whatever. I might have got the story twisted up. But she felt that the wife did the wifely thing -- defer to the man, I guess.

Some of you all ready know that I'm moving to Utah, specifically Springville. I'm leaving my friendly and wonderfully liberal existence in Washington to what I believe is a fiercely conservative state that is governed by a theocracy. It's hardly my idea, but it's being forced upon me. In fact, we've already purchased a house on 800 South. But I was wondering if any of you are in or near Springvil

Serious question. We're a-movin' to Utah, and I find it embarrassing. But even with all the trouble and expense, divorce would cost much more. So I have only met a couple of you personally, and would like to have a meet-up with any of you who live there in "Zion".

So many stories of Mormon "persecution" are mere fabrication. The original persecution started with Mormons laying claim to Smith's"Zion", chasing homesteaders out and burning their homes. Mormons drew first blood.

It is nothing like the church of the 1960's. Some of that's okay, since they did away with institutionalized racism. But things like mandating temple recommends for anyone in any position no matter how small, taking over the once-independent Relief Society to allow priesthood meddling in women's affairs, complete dissolution of any activities that promised enjoyment, getting rid of Boy Scouts for

I was on one of those Rick Steves tours in Cornwall. The group had to wait in a pub before anything was happening, so a bunch of us went across the street and down to the shoreline in the rain and wind. We all looked along a shingle beach, picking up stones from a grand array of beautiful, smooth, and very colorful stones. I decided to look for my very own seer stone. Found one, too. It sits on a
