I don't visit this site as often as I did some years ago and I have not posted much either. However, I do feel like you Eric and the people around here are friends to me because I feel a bond with and great admiration for those smart enough to have discovered the truth and brave enough to leave and unselfish enough to share so much of their knowledge and resources with people they've never met. I

17. Celestial Marriage = Polygamy and the temple endowment ceremony was how those participating in the poligamous "marriages" were sworn to secrecy.

Thanks Jerry, love it. I also liked her last sentence: "Life is good - when you don't have to fake it."

This begs the question, Why do mormons think it's OK to self-invite themselves to people's homes? I just thought of a response for next time. How about I visit you at your place elders? They'd probably freak out. LOL

I agree with Tevai, she's wearing what young women wear these days. However I did noticed the tight/leggings and it reminded me of the YW dress code strict rules that included a no tights/leggings restriction. But hey, good for her for defying the rules, at least until she is in Mexico's CCM. What really caught my attention was her dad's reaction, no excitement, not much to say, not even whe

Rapture? There was a rapture? When I was a kid I was very afraid of the time when there would be two people in the field and one would be taken up to heaven and one would be left behind to suffer the destruction of the earth. Or something like that. I was afraid of the outdoors because of it. What a way of messing up with a child's mind! Anyway, I guess my worst fear came true, I was le

I was thinking something similar. The adultery was an excuse to get rid of him and discredit him within the church. He must have asked the wrong questions or else he would have been "forgiven" and kept in secrecy. Perfect Obedience to the leaders is all is required.

HI Enigma, I was just browsing and your name caught my attention Why does this name sound familiar? I thought. Then I opened the post and as soon as I started the second paragraph I suspected who you were. I went to the link and wow. That was one of those powerful stories that shook my testimony in 2010, especially the last part "I bowed my head and said yes". I often wondere

Hi Mr. Happy, You ask "Was the church ever approached to fund the project?". It doesn't say in the article if he did but I would suspect no. Why? Because members just don't do that, period. At least not in this area. Any idea must be funded by the members, not the "ward budget" whatever that is because nobody other than the bishop knows. But your point brings up a qu

Wow, just when you think the stinginess of the church has hit its lowest point. I guess nothing should surprise me about the lds church, but it sill does! <sigh> A 12 year old wants to build a wheelchair ramp for the cultural hall at his lds building. Great, but why can't the church fund the project? They have enough money for this. Or have the ward members donate one Sundays tithing

I didn't server a mission but was converted by happy and eager missionaries. Sadly, I was one of the rare cases and stayed for almost 25 years. I enjoy reading anything related to those who served. Glad to hear you went back and enjoyed the visit. Your idea sounds very noble, I hope you get interest from others. Wouldn't it be awesome to go on an exmo mission! Good luck,

I had to progress.. constantly.. and I was so busy with all that, that I kinda forgot to live. And I grieve for that time. I really do." Ditto. I was so busy with church that I forgot to live and enjoy life. There were times when I fel

"equal distribution of melchizedek priesthood holders" Oh my, this is what they used to say about the boundary line of two wards. It always seemed odd to me since one of the wards needed those priesthood holders more than the other ward. And they could have made the boundaries make more sense had they taken it more to the north than to the east. I always suspected they wanted to d

As used in the Spanish community Repentance - Arrepentimiento Probation - A prueba, poner a prueba, as in El Obispo lo puso a prueba, or, Lo pusieron a prueba. Disfellowship - You know, I never heard this term in the Spanish wards, it was either on probation or excomunicated. And on probation meant that the scope of it depended on what the SP or Bishop determined. Excommunicate - E

Thank you for posting this summer, I continue to be outraged everytime I see how our Cdn dollars are sent down to Salt Lake. And to add insult to injury, our government has recently increased the deductions allowed in the tax income forms for those donating to charity, thus encouraging the donations even more. But the lds church is not the only one with huge church buildings, there are

We didn't "assign" families to feed the missionaries but we pretty much did. In Ward Council we would find a a couple of families who were missionary friendly then the RS president would casually call, tell them we were filling up the month for missionaries dinners and if they'd like to help out. And there you have it, the big missionary moment. I'm embarrassed to say I did some of

Hi Toronto Boy, I think many leaders don't question because they have no time. I am also in the GTA and any questions I had were quickly off my mid because I kept very busy with church callings and such. But a few things made me turn to google for answers. 1. Why were the janitors let go? I spoke to one of them thinking he has chosen to retire and move out of the city but he explained th

I think Monson already started reshaping the church when he was part of the choosing of Uchtdorf and then choosing him as a counselor. He will probably 'call' someone in the same line. I justwant Uchtdorf out of the FP, he reminds me too much of Hinckley.

"But more than anything I saw a group people who are exactly what the church says you can't be without it. I saw a group of TRULY HAPPY PEOPLE!" This puts a smile on my face because it is so true. The lds church brainwashes you into believing that there is no happiness outside the 'gospel'. Cheers to happy apostates!!!! D =)

Only in America can a woman perm her hair, put bronzer on and pass for "black". What if a black skin woman would put some light make up on and straighten her hair, would she pass for "white"? All this brings to light is the deep roots of division that exist in the US and their long history of a pure white race. One drop of "black" blood and you're out of the w

Should have listened to my first doubt. It was when the missionaries were teaching us. The angel took the plates. What?!?!? but the missionary kept a straight face and I felt I was the one on the wrong. -the 10% tithing -the church is helping the poor. I asked where? Well.. ahem... in Africa. Oh, what about here? Locally, where are the church help organizations? -and the mobs, that r

I had the sister missionaries come to my door a couple of months ago. They tried the all happy we want to get to know you approach. I said I was not interested in getting to know them. One of them asks straight up do you want your name removed. It actually caught me off guard. I told her that IF I ever chose that I would be contacting the Bishop of SLC. And told them they were not welcome ba

I'm sorry for your loss. And I wanted to add that the way Mormons approach funerals is not a matter of how we all grieve different but rather a cult mind set that there should be no grief and that funeral should be used as a missionary opportunity. Here are some thing that I, a convert to the church, and other convert friends found very weird about Mormon death, mourning and funerals. - Th

From the article: "The decision comes at a time when other changes for women have happened in the church. In the past 25 months, the church has among other things lowered the age when women can serve full-time missions, created new leadership positions for missionaries, added prayers by women at the faith's semiannual general conferences and made the semiannual General Women's Meeting an
