You gain a testimony by bearing it. It really works. If you sell a product, you want to believe it isn't crap.

They are gullible and egotistical enough to believe that an idea in their own head is from God. If Lafferty and Jeffs can believe they are prophets. . . Listen to Christine Clark Jeppsen on Mormon Stories. Her father got his "how to recognize when your thoughts are from God" training from BKP. It was eerily like Lafferty's training in the "school of prophets" from Pr

Might be Jack Gurney as played by Peter 0'Toole. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/film/9392175/The-extraordinary-Peter-OToole.html EDIT: My mistake Peter Barnes wrote the script. Now I get it.

I think we pray out of habit, and because it gives us a reassuring sense that we're doing something when in fact we can't do anything. So yeah people mutter to themselves, "Please let him be alright, please make it alright" when a kid is AWOL.

I don't think your theory holds up. I have a great aunt from a super super TBM family that would have been named Emma right in the middle of that time frame. Some names like Mary and Sara/h will always be more popular than Emma, but plenty of Emmas in the Pioneer Overland Travel database. http://history.lds.org/overlandtravels/searchPage?lang=eng Seems like plenty of Emmas in the Utah d

Doesn't a bunch of middle aged and old men marrying teenagers produce a supply of widows? My husbands great grandfather in his late 40's married a 17 year old girl (it was post manifesto, shhhhh! it's a family secret). She was a widow in her 20's after giving birth to DH's grandfather.

Flakes are a big deal in AZ. I mistakenly thought that SNOWFLAKE AZ was named after fluffy stuff from the sky. Nope. Apostle Erastus SNOW sent a William FLAKE to be the first bishop of this AZ colony. Side note: Green Flake was a slave owned by the Flake family. He drove Brigham Young's wagon into the Salt Lake Valley. When his owner moved to California (a free state) they decided

Hertiage Academy teaches from a Cleon Skousen textbook. http://www.azcentral.com/story/news/local/mesa/2014/07/14/mesa-charter-school-religion/12615041/ The constitution being "divinely inspired", and this nation particularly "blessed" has caught the attention of Americans United for Separation of Church and State.

Arizona Mormons love Cleon Skousen. It is more of THAT kind of Mormon. Lot of the Mormon stock around Southern AZ hail from "the colonies", i.e. the polygamist enclaves in Mexico.

The "long scroll" diversion used to work on me. So glad I found the "historical method". While the scientific method is about reproducing experimental results, or interpreting the data correctly; the historical method is sorting through all the documents, journal entries and statements and weighing the reliability of the information. Reliability is dependent on how conte
