I always look out for the Big Dipper whenever I'm in the northern hemisphere. It brings me very fond memories. I had never bothered to look for it here in Brazil, though, since I thought it would be impossible to see. But last winter I thought I saw some of its stars, and decided to photograph it. With a little post-processing in Lightroom, there it was! All of it, beautifully and just barely han

You're welcome, Cuz X! Were you a missionary in Brazil? I saw that you thanked me in Portuguese, how did you know? I haven't posted here in so many years! I've been lurking here since 2004, actually. I just found that out by checking some old emails when Susan I/S asked me to help a fellow Brazilian who was leaving the church and was having a hard time with English. There were no resources in Por

I live in a medium-sized city in southern Brazil, and I noticed that this year there are way more Christmas lights than in previous years. I really like it, and I feel it makes our lives more cheerful. People flock to the prettiest streets at night to admire the lights with their families, even adults without kids. I guess it gives us hope and remind us of Christmases past when there was less

Cuzx, I am very sorry about your daughter. I hope she regains her balance and never considers this terrible option again. Regarding NDEs, this is just a tiny aspect of a much broader reality, IMHO. Being a nevermo, I was always free to question and search for my own answers. Some experiences I had, along with those of very close relatives and friends throughout life, seemed to always point to

Wow... I hadn't visited this board for a couple of years, now, and today the first post I read is this one. It's amazing that you still have this VEJA edition. I actually am Brazilian and I enjoy collecting old magazines such as this one. If you ever want to get rid of it, I would gladly accept it.

I completely agree with Spiritist on this one. There are experiences one needs for his/her own progress, that could only (or much more likely) be achieved in a certain country or social status within a country. For instance, if one has struggled in the past with something such as "misuse of scientific knowledge", and needs to try again to master this particular weakness, it would be ver

As a spiritist myself, I don't remember ever seeing or talking to another one in here. I'm very curious now. Would you care to share a little of your background?

As a nevermo, I found out about this board some 15 years ago, while researching mormonism. I had had several mission presidents as neighbors, and was curious to know to which degree it was weird and insane (a very high degree, I soon found out). I learned a lot about relationships here, and many exit stories were thrilling and moving at the same time. I hadn't been on this board for a few yea

I live in southern Brazil. I do a fair amount of driving on a daily basis, and I can definitely tell that missionaries have almost vanished from our streets. I used to see them wandering around fairly often 10 years ago. I saw a couple of mishies last week, and it dawned on me that I hadn't seen any AT ALL for over a year, maybe more. I didn't know they were sending them away straight out of

Since I was a child, all around me I've seen hints that there is a whole other side of life still partially hidden from us. After considering all I've seen, the only possible explanation was that we are immortal souls, and we've been reincarnationg for ages, slowly learning with our mistakes. I don't know where/when it all began, or where/when it will end. But for now, I know that I have meaning

I live in Brazil. I haven't seen a missionary in the streets for months now, and I live in a medium sized city. TSCC is never EVER mentioned in the news for anything they did, good or bad. I don't know any mormons here at all. The chapels seem always deserted. It's like TSCC doesn't even exist, here. They can't compete with money-grubbing pastors from evangelical churches galore, and there ar

Funny that all news sources I found say only "evangelical". There are just a couple of small LDS websites (nothing official) which confirm it was indeed an LDS retreat. It's indeed possible that most regular readers would not know what "mormon" is, so they omitted it... or maybe the cult "convinced" the media not to mention it? This is very sad... this place i

I found out about mormonism while researching the freemasons, soon after a close relative joined them. There aren't many mormons in Brazil, so I had never given them a second thought. The mormon endowment kept being mentioned so often, that I just had to look it up. I had always thought mormonism was a regular, mainstream religion, but boy, was I in for a surprise. I distinctly remember that in t

Being lighthearted is a sign of great spiritual stature. Despite all he has to deal with, this guy obviously still enjoys life and a good laugh. Good for him. Spreading true (not fake) joy is also a noble spiritual task.

How old is she? Has she been seen by a dermatologist? Of course oral antibiotics and birth control pills (not all of them, some are better than others) would help very much. But regardless of previous treatments, if she has severe acne with nodules and cysts, and/or is starting to develop scars, then it's time for Accutane. I took it several years ago, ironically, while I was a Dermatology reside

OzDoc, what's your area of expertise and city of residence, if you don't mind me asking? I'm a derm and I hear your government is actively seeking new professionals abroad, including dermatologists. Are local docs upset with this? I live in a tropical country and would fit right in, and get away from our crazy government to boot. What are your thoughts?

That's right. The Brazilian government has been embarassing us in front of the whole world by becoming friendly with Cuba and Venezuela. Our president, Dilma Roussef, is a former guerrilla fighter who has never had a real job in her life before starting to work at the top government level, and then becoming president. Corruption has never been more rampant. Their dream is to turn Brazil into a co

I lived in the US many years ago, but sometimes even nowadays, when I want to express a particular thought, I think of it first in English, because the words convey the idea better than in my native language (Portuguese). It happened a lot more often right after I came back, as did the dreaming in English, but sometimes both still happen.

I like it. It's a pagan holiday, so people of every faith can and should celebrate. It's a good excuse to bring families together, for travelling, the food is usually very good (I love turkey and gravy), and there is no obligation to hunt for gifts. Just getting together is enough. Too bad Brazilians don't celebrate it. I could use a good feast and a day off :-)

Juicy J, I was the one who suggested the shower, and also the oral sex. Maybe that's too much to ask for a woman on her first time, though, although but he most definitely should do it on you. Anyway, what do you think? Would you consider it an option, or is it indeed too soon?

I would suggest taking a nice bath first, to relax and eliminate any unwanted body odors from the long wedding day, which in my opinion can be serious deal breakers. You can do it together and already start the foreplay there (really nice, btw), or separately. And definitely do lots of foreplay first, especially oral sex on each other. You'll figure out the rest. Enjoy!

Yes indeed, I can't stand the ones sold here in Brazil. Last month some American friends came over to visit, and brought some packs of candy to give away to the kids on Halloween. One of them was a whole pack of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. I confiscated them immediately. Sorry, neighborhood kids. But my wife saw me doing it, so I had to fight her for them. We ended up splitting 50/50 after she ta

This guy really is amazing. I'm not Catholic, but I'm glad the world is being able to witness real love and compassion from a religious leader. This man makes it more and more obvious how TSCC is just a big corporation.

Quoting Anagrammy: "The missionary experience is designed to break a person's autonomy, show them that they are weak and need superior others to be acceptable to God and their society. They break you and replace your confidence in your own judgment with magical thinking and dependence on knowledgable elders--themselves. It's a cultural process we see in other (primitive) societies."

Yes, summer is coming, and if you can stay for a while and do something fun, maybe relax at the beach, this could be the experience of a lifetime. You are probably in Brazil, right? I live in Santa Catarina state, are you close by? Break free from this cult and enjoy life, preferably with a nice woman at your side!

I think they have a time limit for each investigator; after 15 or 20 minutes they always say they "have to go" and hang up. I logged on again a few minutes later, once, and the same mishie couple greeted me. I also think they can read what you write BEFORE you hit send; one time I asked them a question and took a minute to hit send. The answer came almost immediately. I wonder if an
