I recently had some FB correspondence with a distant relative by marriage. She calls herself 'anti-religion' yet she's a Christian (oxymoron). I'd say non-denominational Christian but she didn't agree. Anyway, I asked her if she believes in healing and she said yes. This was one of her responses: Mark 6 tells about how even Jesus was limited on what he could do in his own home town becau

Thanks for all the responses. While sucking on an infant's penis is not the norm at this point in modern society, it seems like it was quite the fun past-time in ancient days. This is what I just don't understand about religion. We simply brush the CRAZY SH!T from the past aside and say, "that was then, this is now." If God used to be fine having all mohels suck on little boys pe

...bloody private parts after circumcision. This is the sickest thing I've ever heard of. Circumcision is bad enough but I was just reading 'God is Not Great' by Christopher Hitchens and he was talking about this. How can anyone agree this would be of God?? A man cuts the foreskin around the penis then puts his mouth around it and sucks the foreskin into his mouth along with extracting so

Gotta keep the members in line! The only way to do that is through coerced obedience.

Question about 1865 "Joseph III receives a revelation allowing blacks to be baptized. The LDS church follows suit 122 years later." I don't understand this? Blacks were certainly able to be "baptized" (become members) during the ban in the LDS church. Do you think it should read instead, "allowing blacks to baptize."?

I haven't seen any essays published lately. There's only a handful posted of the supposed 13 that are written. Do you think they got too much backlash? What's the scoop?

Awesome/sad story. It seems like you've grown a lot over the years. Thank you for not converting anyone. :) Your MTC teaching experience is very telling! It shows how fallible our feelings are and how the church uses that to deceive people. Good luck on your journey!

I met with Marlin when we left last year. He agreed everything we had found was accurate. The two things he said were, "don't study church history to little," and, "lean into the gospel." We immediately decided to resign. I was just talking to another ultra-TBM member that just resigned with his whole family. They also met with Marlin and he admitted to them he had bl

Yes, I think it was quite a blow to the church when that article came out. Old news on this board but thanks for bringing it up since there are many new readers here that didn't originally know about the disaffection of a GA. It's always enlightening when you gain a little more knowledge.

I agree, why should 325CE ring a bell? Please enlighten all us blundering idiots who just came out of Mormonism. ;) I believe in the bible as far as it's translated correctly...is 325CE a correct translation? Help.

First, I absolutely LOVE your daily threads on Mormonism. I just setup a Facebook account to highlight Mormonism, critical thinking, and cognitive dissonance. I'm wondering if I can repost your daily history threads (of course, giving you credit)? I would love to be able to share these topics with my TBM family members. Please let me know. Thanks!

While I love the new series, I really wish they would move along the topics quicker. The cartoons are childish, way too much time is spent in the "spaceship of the imagination", and Neil's prose leaves something to be desired. But that nitpicking aside, it's a great show! It shows creationism is ridiculous. Incredible graphics (I wish they would say when it's computer-generated or

So, according to Thomas Paine, he was under the belief that the words: prophet, prophecy, prophesying used to mean being a poet or a musician. That 'prophesying' used to mean 'playing music'! I've never heard this before and I wanted to get some feedback from those in the know. He said it originally was used in science but then transitioned into poetry and music. Then its message changed aga

I realized this difference when I went to the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit in Utah this past winter. They had a display of the Ten Commandments and the "keep the Sabbath day holy" included the line about letting your SLAVES rest on the Sabbath day. I have never heard of this before. When I went to my KJV, I realized it said "man-servant" and "maid-servant"!! MUCH S

When I went to the KJV (Mormon) Bible, the language is not so "hot". Why is there such a difference in the wording?
