"Neos, scholarly rebuttals have been offered to all of the claims that are made in the websites you list. Two of your sites you list are run by former ARM posters Kerry Shirts and Woody Brison. I have repeatedly rebutted all of their alleged 'evidence" There's one other Mormon apologetic approach which is to find parallels between the translation and ancient Egyptians. These para

Honestly I think it's because it's easier. Pseudoscience is really easy to find and understand and they make arguments that you need deeper knowledge to debunk. It's just so easy to believe whatever you read and not check footnotes.

It has frequently been used to support theism. I have only found one person who tried to write something which seems like a reasonable rebuttal, but I do not understand it at all. http://www.preposterousuniverse.com/blog/2014/05/05/squelching-boltzmann-brains-and-maybe-eternal-inflation/ I need to read up more on physics.

Probably not. That seems like a bit of a stretched parallel. The Book of Mormon was based off of the Mound Builder Myth. Part of the myth states that the developed tribe (Nephites) and the wild, black, troublesome tribe (Lamenites) had their final battle on top of a hill, where the developed Christian Jews would be wiped out entirely. The story of the Jaredites "coincidentally&qu

The Q15 could hardly be considered experts in any religion including Mormonism. I supposed we take different stances on this. While anyone is technically free to voice their opinions on biology, I will only listen to the qualified biologist. If laymen had any authority or knowledge on the subject, creationism would be a lot more popular. I stick with this philosophy for the law too.

Well we have to ask ourselves what the universe would look like if there was a God who designed our universe. Our universe is certainly not hospitable towards life (life only appears very rarely which is what the atheist model would predict) while we would expect a creator to design the universe for better life. They would most likely give us minds that were separated from brains so we wouldn't

The thing which agnostics always miss is the evidence we have against God so that we can conclude that it is more probably that God does not exist.

I don't believe that View of the Hebrews had any direct effect on the BofM. View simply contains the theory's of Indian origins that were popular in Smith's day. There are other books which contain the same theories. I believe Spaulding's Manuscript Found contained the same theories and I base this off of witness testimony. Spaulding went to the same schools as Ethan Smith so they likely had
