In my late 20's I was inactive but my parents did not know until SLC records called them - my parents immediately called me and it was... uncomfortable.

I have two sisters I enjoy interacting with. i also have two parents, two brothers and two more sisters that i avoid because i'm not interested in their particular brand of crazy or how they choose to apply it to everyone around them.

Well, we all know feminists are one the three greatest threats to the "church" because an apostle of the lard taught this. i'm not certain why they feel the edit is warranted. One, some, all - feminists are dangerous. period. (pun intended, also please read this using a sarcastic tone).

That was funny! I wonder how many of them felt the spirit acting like douchebags.

These women and men who support the movement really need to take it to their wards - show up to priesthood session at their ward or stake bldg where it will be a lot more uncomfortable for the men to deny them entrance. once they've kicked in that hornets nest let the bishops and stk presidency and high council fret over how to stop it from happening again. if it happens all over the globe there

I find the mention of 100k missionaries amusing. Once this initial bump of 18 yo's passes they'll be back to the standard 50-60k and any convert increase due to the bump and seen as the "work of the lord in these latter days" will once again become "members need to lengthen their stride".

The morgbots were like this in memphis too when that temple was started - now it sites idle most days with use only certain evenings and each Saturday. And I think the church finally got the building's really bad mold problem under control in 2010.

The "God Delusion" was a good book. I would recommend "Why We Believe in God(s)" if you are interested in the neuroscience behind religious mysticism.

In the Carbondale IL ward, where I worked as finance clerk until June, the % of active adults with TR's was 50%, the % for all adults on the roster was 30%.

Dallin Oaks visited the cape girardeau MO stake conf about 6 yrs ago when they re organized the stk presidency - he went around glad handing like a rock star and his talk was all about the tithing levels of that stake versus "established" stakes in UT and AZ. AT that time the MO stake was at about 50% tithe payers - have no idea what it is now, but don't believe it has increased.

I think the leadership wants everyone focused on the very basics -I mean they spent two years in priesthood and RS teaching from "Gospel Principles". They (the 15) know they're losing control and the best way to regain control is to provide a simple, easily identifiable foundation, against which the members can judge when someone is going to far afield from the lard's one true gospel

it's all about manipulation with the morg leadership - emotional, financial or data. They will try anything to make themselves look legit.

Titus- got my new name on Jan 5th 1990 in DC temple days before I left on my mission to spread the gospel in CA. I am still embarrassed by how naive I was.

you can buy garments with a TR if you previously had a TR and have gone thru the temple. All you need is you member number and date of your confirmation so they can look you up and verify you are "approved" to buy the holy underpants.

I tease Mrs Truthseeker with that crap all the time. If we have a disagreement I say "I have the priesthood, your god commands you to obey me". She just rolls her eyes and says "whatever". It's sad how some tbm's pick and choose what they will obey and what they will ignore...

Mormons would not report this to the police and it seems the congregation of mystics mentioned in the article would not either. Mysticism will always trump common sense, empathy, and morality.

There was a "scientific" analysis of mermaids on the "history" channel yesterday - it was amusing and horrifying. Like something the Kansas State Board of Education would create.

The debate was over long ago, now they just keep adding evidence to support the theory. Also Stray Mutt's comment is 100% right on - there are some people that remain immune to reality and evidence and facts. They will always be among us, but may eventually be relegated to the fringe like young earthers, flat earthers, racists and homophobes.

It hasn't been pushed in my wife's ward (carbondale IL) for a few (5?) years. We have a program similar to JoD's where you are asked to sign up to feed the missionaries while hosting a discussion with an investigator (bonus points for feeding missionaries and investigator). The missionaries are fed sporadically and very few investigators go to the member's homes to be "taught". Al

True - and their fallback position will be 1) it wasn't gawd's will, or 2) someone did not have sufficient faith.

Roadshows were pretty fun! When the church killed roadshows it began the descent into what is currently a pathetic excuse for a youth auxiliary. It's no wonder that most teens aren't interested in what the church offers as "activities".
