I told my wife i'd go to church on father's day so when my kids go up with the primary to sing to the fathers they'd have someone to sign to. They've done that for every mother's and father's day for the past ten years in every ward we've been in. But this year, nothing. No primary choir in sacrament meeting. Not the usual candy bars or cookies, not even the father's day card made in primary.

I don't know about at the stake level by my experience at the ward level has been that annual goals are set for things like convert baptisms, reactivations, prospective elders getting the priesthood, and geting new converts to the temple. My experience has also been that there's very little accountability regarding the goals. They are usually forgotten about pretty quickly.

No big deal, call it whatever you want. He started his talk by saying he was going to talk about the atonement and then didn't mention the atonement or Jesus at all after that except for in his testimony at the end. I'm using it as an example of mormons not talking about Jesus when the opportunity is there because that's the subject matter of the thread. It could just as easily be an example o

I attended sacrament meeting a few weeks ago for the first time since the primary program back in the fall. There were two talks. Talk 1: By the seminary instructor. She spent the whole time talking about the sacrifice the students made in coming to early morning seminary, how difficult some of their personal lives were and some of the "fun" activities they did. Nothing at all abo

I've known missionaries that wear rubber bands on their wrists. They snap them when they are "tempted".

My SIL got everyone the Glenn Beck Christmas Sweater book one year. She probably bought 25 or more copies to give out. What a waste.

For what it's worth, they've had conference on the weekend where the 1st is on a sunday before. I don't think this can be attributed to Romney and increased attention because it has been done before.

In addition to what others have already said, i'd imagine you wpuld also have to put up with the constant push by ward members to fully reactivate you. They "know" that you know deep down that it's true.

They could wear one on their way or out of the temple, but not during the actual wedding ceremony. Unless is was all white, then I suppose they could wear most of the tux under the temple clothes.

I ran in to that phrase from non-mormons in WA too. They even used it to refer to Michigan, so it just means somewhere past the Dakotas to the people I met.

No need to go back in time for historical teachings. According to the gospel principles manual on the church web page, in the chapter on exaltation: "they will become gods" And just for fun it also says: "God....He was once a man like us...dwelt on the Earth, the same as Jesus"

It's not something I do but I love it way more than I should when my children play in their toy kitchen and they "make" coffee and tea for their TBM grandparents.

Yes, they do make glasses that deliver oxygen, the tubes are built right in. oxy-view is the main brand name i've seen. They're becoming more popular, they look better than the old nasal cannula.

The ward always registered the boys and paid for it out of church funds, the parents had very little involvement. At least that's how it was hadled in the ward I was in when I was a YM leader.

If you have a membership number I think you can look in the new family search.database for the names and check if they've had any temple work done. I was a first generation convert so none of my recent family was in there until I entered their names. I then "reserved" their temple work so no one else can do it but me. So in theory my ancestors should be safe. Unless the "reserv

I had a TBM family member tell us not to have a traditional non-mormon wedding reception (dinner, music, rented hall, etc) because we'd never make our money back in gifts. I didn't attribute that to being TBM, just to being cheap and misguided. But maybe the two are related.

If you know where to look on lds.org you can findbuilding locations and meeting times, but what average non-mormon would do that? When I was ward mission leader in a university ward I asked the bishop if we could put an ad in the local paper with the building location and meeting times like so many other churches do. I got a confused look back and was told that that's not how the church does t

Not sure what out ranks what but in my 8 years in the church my "higher" callings were: ward mission leader, stake YMs presidency, EQP, and exec secretary.

I wonder if the 2 or 3 missionaries I've met that told me they were sent home mid-mission for "surgery" were actually sent home to repent?

Could be. I've sold several houses over the years and this is the first time i've had a buyer tell us something as crazy as we need to re-side the entire detatched garage completely at our expense because one of the boards is chipped. And then call the siding request a deal breaker. And the wife emailed my wife right before we got the initial offer to let her know that it was coming to us from

We're trying to sell our house right now in an ok market. We priced it low, by about $15k, so it would sell. After two months we finally got an offer. It was from someone my wife sort of knew from church. Their offer was presented as their absolute best offer. We countered at a higher price (but still $10k below our lower list price) and they accepted, meaning theirs wasn't really their best. But

And i'm sure if a mormon were to offer a Jewish person some bacon and they said, "no thanks, i'm Jewish" it would make the mormon consider converting to Judaism too, right?
