Just one more -- and then I'll stop talking and start listening -- honest! Wasn't that Ron and Dan Lafferty's motto? "Women! Stop Talking and Start Listening!" "As Roe reserves the power *to the people* it is not in violation of the 10th Amendment." "COMMENT: The "power" referred to in the 10th Amendment is not the power to make personal choices, it

P.S. Roe -- which you really should read, by the way -- specifically mentions that as neither scientists nor religions agree about abortion, they refused to rule on its right or wrong but returned that decision to the people. There is plenty in the Constitution to support that.

I wish we could just up vote. I would for the skipper's post and LW's response to Henry. Henry -- really? The 10th Amendment reads "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or *to the people*." As Roe reserves the power *to the people* it is not in violation of the 10th Amendment. A

Hmmm -- are you sure you are following the conversation? Yes -- I know that the Supreme Court and the federal government are not one and the same -- AS WAS MY ORIGINAL POINT which this post was to bolster. Although -- as a matter of fact -- as interpreters of the supreme law of the land -- the Constitution, the Supreme Court can in fact force other branches of the government to do its bidding --

Here ya' go -- "Mitch McConnell Says Federal Lawmakers Could Ban Abortion Across The Nation If the leaked Supreme Court opinion becomes final, federal lawmakers could prohibit abortion everywhere, said McConnell." https://www.huffpost.com/entry/mitch-mcconnell-national-abortion-ban-possible-roe-v-wade_n_62772e80e4b0b7c8f0851155 Hope this clears that up for you.

For anyone struggling with the history of the right to privacy, here ya' go -- the best book on the topic -- by the guy who has argued the most successful cases before the Supreme Court -- so he actually gets -- like -- Constitutional law -- and stuff like that. https://www.amazon.com/Abortion-Absolutes-Laurence-H-Tribe/dp/0393309568/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3ITJ1NY6VY3CI&keywords=abortion+the+cl

It's sorta like Avon -- and sorta not. Avon always skirted close to a legitimate company. I used to sometimes buy it -- back in the day -- which was -- oh -- mid '60's. The cosmetics aren't bad -- a little tame, proper, and prim, as cosmetics go, but not bad quality and not an outrageous price. I think they seem to have switched over to more legitimate online sales rather than neighbors who knock

I'm not so sure that was the problem with the company, Summer. Everyone (of the female gender) does wear leggings -- although not so much for modesty's sake. It wasn't lack of a market or saturating a market -- it was the product, which was described as arriving "wet, torn, and smelling like “dead farts"... And it was that MLM's are intrinsically scams. How the scam was wor

I don’t know if it’s pure human instinct to want to defend and tell your own story, or if it’s part of our lesser self, our narcissistic or egoic self, that wants to be in control an

Yeah! I am not watching it -- yet -- but I was reading this article and thought about this forum immediately. "The Stidhams are unbelievable characters. DeAnne, who apparently has “the higher hair, the closer to God” stitched onto her soul, was a divorced single mom of seven when she met Mark. After 23 years together, the couple, who identify as Mormons and often preached the church

P.S. That's because now when a guy and his wife get pregnant when she's ready to deliver, he gets fired -- right? So that will be equality to fire her, too. Got it. I'm so glad you aren't unclear on the concept of equality!

Ah --- yet another caught up in projection -- because speaking of stupid... You can be an atheist and join several religions including Hinduism, the most ancient, and Universal Unitarian, one of the more recent. Perhaps the OP can delineate exactly what "lies" are involved in being atheist. Or -- not so much. Not to mention that many, many religious people understand their beliefs

I need to stop coming here to skim. I always end up annoyed by several things all at once. It brings out the editor in me, which isn't perhaps my favorite side. There is this huge idea out there that the Scandinavia countries are living proof that atheism is the "successful" way to go. (Also that they are socialist, but we needed go there.) Problem: They aren't particularly athei

Someone thought it was offensive to compare them. I don't know about *offensive,* but it is scientifically inaccurate -- for anyone who cares about science. FGM is considered a violation of human rights. There are no benefits for the woman -- only harm -- sometimes grave, sometimes death. That is the opinion of the medical community and the legal community. Circumcision -- the medical comm

And art as good as anything from contemporary artists -- or anything in history. That gets at something I have wondered about as I read this thread. I am not sure I completely grasp the thesis of this book, but I *believe* art historians at least do not believe in a progression of human consciousness -- at least when it comes to making art. The first art was as good as art gets. I always th
