I saw a quote a few months ago where toward the end of his life Kimball told either his son or grandson that maybe some of things in The Miracle of Forgiveness were sort of harsh and he regretted saying them. Sorry, can't recall more about the quote, but I remember reading it and thinking, "well then, why not say something over the pulpit about it?" This chastity argument is wrong on

Good catch! I've noticed on more than one occasion that if they don't want you to make the connection you can search through the online version of the scriptures and the connection either will not come up or it will be buried at the very end of the search. You are right. They don't want you to find it.

Well, I think this story establishes a great precedent. Bishop: "Why aren't you wearing your garments today?" Member: "Well bishop, I didn't want them to fall into the hands of my enemies."

What a great system. The church can hide behind the apologists, shun all responsibility, and remain silent while they address the tough questions.

It is extortion. I never required it either. But many leaders have a big power trip going. They get a kick out of lording it over the members.

Supposedly you go to outer darkness if you commit the unpardonable sin. And what is that? According to a lesson from one of the handbooks: "If any people on earth are capable of committing the unpardonable sin, you will find them among those who have, or will, come to a knowledge of the truth. … You and I have received the light. We have received the Holy Priesthood. We have received the

Had an ex-bishop who went swimming in his own backyard pool wearing his regular swimsuit over his garments. Hideous.

Great thread topic! I never thought about it like this. A little over a year ago, I bolted like Usain, followed immediately by my wife. After years of high visibility ward and stake callings I don't think anyone saw it coming. But this distinction really makes sense from the standpoint of how you are treated after you leave. We are basically treated like we are invisible AND have leprosy.

"Oops, lost my internet connection, sorry." Will the missionaries have to go talk to the mission president if their computer goes down on them?

I can just hear someone mumbling to themselves in the tour: "Okay, saw the chapel. Here's a classroom, another classroom, the nursery, the cultural hall, classroom, classroom, library, classroom, classroom, restroom...what's the big freaking deal?" Reminds me of a number of years ago, there was a "gentlemen's club" opening up in the neighborhood. Many neighbors were concern

Like I mentioned in an earlier post, this number of missionaries multiplied by the number of hours they are expected to work a day works out to over 1 million hours a DAY! What a colossal waste of time. It boggles the mind!

Agreed. No need for a third counselor in the current scenario. I could see Monson, Packer, Perry and Nelson all checking out at about the same time, but then you've got four more 80+ year olds waiting in line leaning on their walkers. And consider this, If ANYONE this old was running for president, no one would vote for them.

Investigators are intimidated when two missionaries AND a member show up to teach. It's very overbearing.

People have been commenting on how feeble Monson is getting. I decided to check on the current ages of those coming up in the ranks. Packer - 88 Perry - 90 Nelson - 88 Oaks - 80 Ballard - 84 Scott - 84 Hales - 80 Holland - 72 Bednar - 61 Cook - 72 Christofferson - 68 Anderson - 61 Average age = 77 Monson - 83 Eyring - 80 Uchtdorf - 73 Average age = 79 What a great setup, isn

Just remember, the full blown scary version of hell that everyone buys into now was invented by Dante (of Dante's Inferno) in order to criticize the pope and a bunch of other people he was really mad at. No one had previously come up with such a terrifying version before. Even though the Catholic Church was probably pissed at Dante for consigning the pope to hell, it seems that they liked his id

Why can't we just go on the LDS Facebook sites and make obnoxious comments. That might get them to leave us alone!

Hey, hadn't checked back after I put this up. Glad people read it. Thanks! Good comments all. And yes, absolutely, if something like that actually happened, the first question out of your mouth would not be "must I join the Methodist Church." I seriously doubt if a question like that would even be asked during an experience like this. However, Alexander Neibaur has a whole lot of

It's not an official church wide list, but most wards have them. And they try to at least send a letter out to everyone on the list at least once a year. Occasionally they will get revved up and decide to make some visits. I cannot recall a single instance where this process resulted in anyone coming back to church.

Someone mentioned last night they would like to read this. This is one of the official accounts, written by Alexander Neibaur, actually the first Jew to join the church. He also wrote one of the church hymns. If you've read the various accounts I'm sure they all come across as rather eloquent. In reality, not so much. This is a hand typed copy with intact grammar, spelling and punctuation. &qu

The eight accounts: #2 "The visiting Jewish Minister" was Alexander Neibaur, my 4th great grandfather. I have the account written out in his own words. Kinda weird, but I know that after he died, he realized it was all a crock too. If anyone is interested in it, I'll find it and post it.

Again, another religion of fear, the belief that God is a heartless cruel egomaniac who will be satisfied with nothing less than brutal punishment for disobeying him. The people who faithfully follow Islam do so because they've gotten on the good side of a brutal drunken stepfather. They're like the little kid who gets approval from the ogre by turning in their siblings for being irresponsible. T

The Heavenly Father of the Mormon church is false. I also reject Jehovah of the Old Testament. He is a heartless cruel egomaniac. However, that being said, I believe in God. I believe he asks (not commands) just one thing from us - that we accept his love. THIS is where our free agency comes in. If we don't accept his love, he still loves us because his love is unconditional. If we choose to
