Facial hair is frowned on for men in leadership positions, but as far as I know it is not officially prohibited. The peer pressure is significant, however.

I have come to the conclusion that God couldn't care less about what clothes we wear or how we wear our hair, how many times we pierce our ears or if we have tattoos or not. Seriously, why would the creator of the universe care about your underwear?

This single biblical reference in the Bible to masturbation isn't even about masturbation. It's about the relatively common practice of "coitus interruptus", or pulling out before ejaculation. It's used as a method of birth control. Granted, it isn't extremely effective but apparently it works sometimes. As far as I know, there are no other scriptures which condemn masturbation.

In Luke 15 the Savior tells the parable of the Prodigal Son. I have come to realize we are all prodigal sons and daughters. God wants us all back, and there isn't anyone he can't save.

It is terrible. It is very damaging to a young missionary's self esteem. No good deed goes unpunished. But maybe if you get out on a mission and decide you made a huge mistake...you could ask to meet with the mission president and tell him you slept with every investigator you taught. You get sent home, they boot you out...problem solved!

That when TBMs see you somewhere and they ask how you are doing that a lot of them are secretly hoping you'll sigh, look down at the floor and say, "oh, not so good..."? One of these days I swear I'm going to answer: "Ever since the day I left the church, my life has been a terrifying free fall into hellish agony and despair..." Pause...note their reaction... Bust out lau

I saw another thread on here recently that was talking about how inefficient the church's missionary program was. Here is another way of looking at it. Wikipedia says that as of April 2013, the church had 65,000 full time missionaries in the field. Each one of those missionaries puts in about a 16 hr. work day. 65,000 x 16 = 1,040,000 missionary hours EVERY SINGLE DAY. Having had a son on a

Have you ever thought about that? Consider this one: Church version: After suffering severe persecution and the death of their beloved prophet, the church was forced to abandon Nauvoo. Prophetic inspiration led them to the Rocky Mountains where they were finally able to make their home. What actually happened: Because the citizens of Illinois were outraged over polygamy and other questionab

If being an ex-bishop has any clout at all, let it be that I believe this: The church is about fear, submission, guilt and control. Do not give them your fear. Always remember: they have no control over you!

Spirituality good. Religion bad. Religion is about control, fear and submission. Spirituality is a personal journey. I believe everyone should find God on their own, and if they go looking, God will find them. The result will be quite unlike anything a religion will pretend to give you. A personal relationship with God costs nothing. It can bring you peace and joy. Belonging to a religion bri

I think the plates were just an eight place setting of disposable Chinet. That must be why the church doesn't have them anymore.

Didn't want to let this go unnoticed: f a ward is faithfully donating money to the ward mission fund and that fund has more money than it would take to support all your current missionaries for more than three months, Salt Lake will sweep the "extra" money out.

The home came over once after we quit (same ones as when we were active) and I know they wanted to talk to us about why we left. But we had a couple of our kids over visiting at the time and I had no interest in getting into a discussion on that day (although I wouldn't have minded telling them why!). At the time we were rather ambivalent about them being there and they seemed uncomfortable t

alphonso - that's it...oxytocin. Whether you believe in God or not, this hormonal release is something that is definitely beneficial to people. Hugs feel good and they are good for you. And the skin on skin feeling with someone you are in love with...your skin is the biggest organ of your body and this sensation is wonderful.

My wife and I left over a year ago, but one thing that still shows up in our email is the LDS Living emails. I haven't blocked it because it's interesting to read some of the ridiculous articles from time to time and roll our eyes. Almost a month ago they published one that really hammered the members on tithing. It was really irritating and I decided to write a comment. It said basically: "

If the church were truly led by a prophet, they would have come up with a reasonable, wise, unchanging policy on gays the very first time it was brought up. Instead they waffle about, wring their hands and parse words.
