"The first amendment applies to the government, It is completely irrelevant to the topic at hand." https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pn-kxUEySy0 I don't write things to feel smart, I write them for fun or to address the Mormon experience. Coherence in biological signaling is directly relevant because it provides a mechanism for the experience of the Holy Ghost. Faith regularly viol

It's like being raised in a McDonald's, practically worshipping founder Ray Croc. You don't know what all Ray did to build the franchise, you just hear good stuff. And of course, all you eat is McDonald's.

Or she could escape prison on a flying unicorn Or Nephi could appear and cause an earthquake Or she could be released on account of her super specialness Or the church could be true Or maybe she's just plain nuts. “After I get exonerated, maybe I’ll go on ‘Dancing With the Stars’ and you can come,” she said to NBC’s Keith Morrison." I suppose if she's first patt

Was a great actor and a decent guy, dead at 95. The mystery of his death has been officially solved. Natural causes. https://www.scmp.com/news/world/united-states-canada/article/3301592/gene-hackman-died-heart-disease-wife-died-hantavirus-week-earlier His temple work can be done 1 year after his death. Does the clock start ticking when the body was discovered, or two weeks earlier? Mormo

"Like the idea that we don't fight fascists because we will win (we may not in fact win), we fight fascists because they are fascists, I oppose a bad God because it is bad. Again, better there were no God at all. We'll see (or not)" I like Chris Hedges too, but he has seen way too much. As cruel as the modern world is, it's at least within the realm of imagination. "There is no getting away from the fact that we human beings are small creatures with only a few inaccurate, incomplete channels through which we receive all information from outside ourselves." Drinking from a firehose may only be possible with a belief system. The bandwidth limitation could be the cause of the illusion of separation. The observer effect is weak enough for the ob

The thing about vaccines is that the data is already there. Managing a conspiracy to make it support vaccine-caused autism would be impossible. The heavy-handed rollout of the Covid shots may have been well-intentioned, but it means measles is coming back. The 90-95% measles vaccination rate needed to stop pandemics won't be there in many places. Humans are fickle that way. Those who feel b

"Henry says it is up to you to prove that Vallow's worldview is incorrect. You cannot take the "expert" consensus as true, and her defenders have no obligation to prove their claims no matter how outlandish they may seem." Nobody has any obligation to prove anything. That's why we have a First Amendment. You are allowed to state what you believe with no proof whatsoever, ba

I know there are lists of cult characteristics, but if you wanted one quick and easy test, what would it be? I think the way leaders are viewed is a good gauge. For example, if questioning the leaders simply isn't done, because that wouldn't make any sense, it's a cult. No doubt about it. Members give their moral autonomy to the cult. What's moral about that?

That's why Jack Nicholson's improvised "You can't handle the truth!" is one of the best lines in movie history. The notion that someone is coming to save us is supported by exactly as much evidence as Santa's flying reindeer. But many believe it because they are too afraid not to. I don't blame Mormons for retreating into a world of make believe. I can't even say it's a bad thing,
