That was the explanation Joseph Smith gave for his failed money digging expeditions. And they believed it! Those same people formed the congregation of his 1830 church. The church selects for credulity. So of course the Jaredite death trap barges made it safely to America instead of sinking immediately after loading. It's magic. Most people lose their magical thinking around age 7 or

In the church, women see sexism as a gospel principle and go along with it. It's all part of the Mormon experience, which they can quit at any time. Easy as quitting smoking.

So after everything else, this will be the thing to make the blinders fall off? I don't think so. TBMs are fully invested. All they need is remote plausibility. The old story was stretching plausibility to the breaking point, so it's good that they are changing it.

Since you asked, https://noetic.org/research/global-consciousness-project/ The random number generators used in the project have a balancing circuit that introduces a time delay. The signal that produces the effect must travel backwards in time for it to work. That is backward causation. We don't know how much of our "reality" is caused by backward causation. It would be nice t

The human genome project was expected to put these questions to rest. It didn't, the genome was not as complex as expected. It does not solve the heritability problem. DNA shows the construction of the radio, not the information received by the radio. Epigenetics, a reboot of Lamarckian inheritance, concerns the latter. Susskind's concern that "dumb luck needs an explanation" can

"is there any chance that the astonishing claim..." The fact that they consider the claim astonishing comes off to me as a red flag. It means they need an alternative explanation. I am not surprised with the lack of replication. An observer who does not want the experiment to succeed will poison metaphysical experiments. So, here is where faith and science collide. Those of us
