He didn't know that church investments would make tithing revenue irrelevant. As long as they can keep a few butts in seats, they keep their tax-exempt status.

"There is no getting away from the fact that we human beings are small creatures with only a few inaccurate, incomplete channels through which we receive all information from outside ourselves." Drinking from a firehose may only be possible with a belief system. The bandwidth limitation could be the cause of the illusion of separation. The observer effect is weak enough for the ob

The thing about vaccines is that the data is already there. Managing a conspiracy to make it support vaccine-caused autism would be impossible. The heavy-handed rollout of the Covid shots may have been well-intentioned, but it means measles is coming back. The 90-95% measles vaccination rate needed to stop pandemics won't be there in many places. Humans are fickle that way. Those who feel b

You would have to forget about Lucifer. If Adam was God, maybe Lilith was Lucifer's wife. Or would that be Mrs Lucifer?

"Henry says it is up to you to prove that Vallow's worldview is incorrect. You cannot take the "expert" consensus as true, and her defenders have no obligation to prove their claims no matter how outlandish they may seem." Nobody has any obligation to prove anything. That's why we have a First Amendment. You are allowed to state what you believe with no proof whatsoever, ba

I know there are lists of cult characteristics, but if you wanted one quick and easy test, what would it be? I think the way leaders are viewed is a good gauge. For example, if questioning the leaders simply isn't done, because that wouldn't make any sense, it's a cult. No doubt about it. Members give their moral autonomy to the cult. What's moral about that?

That's why Jack Nicholson's improvised "You can't handle the truth!" is one of the best lines in movie history. The notion that someone is coming to save us is supported by exactly as much evidence as Santa's flying reindeer. But many believe it because they are too afraid not to. I don't blame Mormons for retreating into a world of make believe. I can't even say it's a bad thing,

"You see people you know will die, lying in a ditch among many already dead & no hope of help - what do you do?" Give them a Priesthood blessing! Just in case a double tap isn't enough, the anointing oil will prevent them from coming back as zombies.

The more marginalized people feel, the further they retreat into magical thinking. So now Jesus is America's personal genie. Christianity has become a cargo cult. Praise Jesus if cargo falls from the sky, have more faith if it doesn’t. Being a missionary must be hell these days. I wouldn't blame them for anything.

"I can hardly wait to hear how ATP fuels consciousness in a non-physical dimension" Since you are asking, it has to do with electrical differentials across membranes formed by chiral molecules. These impart a spin bias to the ionic electron flow which produces a torsion field. These spin fields combine in a coherent way, like laser light, because they vibrate in time rather than spac

The problem with your objection, as several posters have pointed out, is that the Mormon stance is not unique to Mormonism and goes back much further than the Victorian era. You can make your own porn with a stick and a patch of dirt. The parable of the ten virgins could have been about fapping. The oil is a metaphor for craniosacral fluid. Blasting a load is like burning up the oil, it messes

They have to read it with their spiritual eyes. The real question is whether science should address spiritual topics. The highest rate of atheism in scientists is among biologists, yet mitochondria are the closest life form to God in the human body. So a proposed mechanism by which the body integrates with its non-physical dimensions won't get far if those dimensions are not believed to exist.
