Yeah, pretty proud Dad. She casually announced to us at Christmas dinner, that she has to cut her Christmas break short and leave on Jan.8th. She got a call from the Dean/Director of aviation that she was selected to be the First Officer(Co-pilot) for MTSU's corporate King Air 350. She'll be flying the University President, the Athletic Director, various coaches on recruiting trips and the golf a

I think of Dolly as a Rock Star at Life, not music. She's a country music star, movie star and kick ass chick. Never heard anyone say a bad thing about her. My daughter goes to Middle Tennessee State University, outside of Nashville, on a volleyball scholarship. MTSU has an awesome professional aviation school and has her commercial pilots license and her Certified Flight Instructor licenses. She

I grew up in Houston when Willie, Waylon, Emmy Lou, Jerry Jeff, Leon Russell, Jessie Colter and David Allan Coe were all trying to make it big. I was underage (legal was 18) but had my friend's big brother's ID. They all played all the joints on Telephone road, OST and Gilleys. Many times for no cover or just a dollar. A lot of times playing in dive bars that were half full on a Wednesday night.

Yep. But what they could wear, what you could show and how you could dance on public TV in 1969 was a whole lot different than Bananarama in 1986 on MTV.

This is "Venus" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LhkyyCvUHk Shocking Blue, 1969 Bananarama was a manufactured girl band. Like Back Street Boys or InSync. Made for the teenage MTV boys and their boxes of tissues. Other, real bands (male) would let them open for them because they would all sleep with those bands on tour. Talentless, MTV dancers.

Thanks Summer. Was your friends kid in major culture shock? My kid, born in CA, grew up in Utah, can't believe the culture of the South. Great food, great people, but about 70 years behind times.

WHO do you know there on a sports scholarship? Initials will do. My daughter is there on a full ride athletic scholarship.(LF-do you know my kid?) Go Blue Raiders! The athletes all know each other from different teams. There's some gay girls playing college sports (surprise!). A few of her teammates are gay, as well as one of her roommates in a different sport. MTSU is the 3rd largest employer i

I live close to there. Those homes, believe it or not, were mostly built during the Great Recession. You could buy them for 350-500K, a price of less than a new home in SL and Utah County today. The homes were there before the temple. I don't get it, but in Utah, your property value goes up when they build a Home Depot sized, multi-story, perpetually lit up every night, religious monstrosity on y

Been super hyped for the Utah/Oregon game today. Had The Pat McAfee Show here, live yesterday and Game Day (also with McAfee) in the dark and cold @ 7 am, live on ESPN. McAfee, talking about the rowdy Utah student section the MUSS (Mighty Utah Student Section) and the spirit they show. He opened the show with the roaring crowd behind him saying; "The MUSS, showing us that it's not all mormon

My neighbor, as a kid growing up in Clear Lake City (NASA) TX was Col. Kermit Beahan. His daughter Lisa and I were friends. He had the bomb cradle safety pin from the Fat Man in his home office. He was the guy that dropped the bomb over Nagasaki and was in the spotter plane for the Enola Gay when Tibbets dropped Little Boy on Hiroshima. He died in 1989. He said that "He hoped he'd be the las

"Since when does the church delve into celebrating it? " I've lived in Utah for 21 years. As long as I can remember, "the" church has always held "Trunk or treat" in the ward's parking lots. Took my 4 year old daughter once, and we were treated like the heathen lepers that I guess we are. Never took her to another one again.

Yeah, I know a bit about insurance and actuaries. My grandfather was an actuary for the New York Fireman's Fund. I've known all about insurance companies since I was 3. I spent my 1st year in college as an accounting major, thinking about following in my grandfather's successful footsteps. Until I took the courses, bored out of my mind and being surrounded by accountants. Plus, I know a lot abo

Insurance companies are the worst. Ever get an offer to install a plug in device to you vehicle to get you a reduced policy rate? Ha! Liars. Those recorders know everything that you do. They know the lateral forces that you put on your car during cornering. They know how fast you accelerate and how hard you brake. They know how fast you are going on any given street and what that speed limit is f

Sad. Great guy, great player, great sense of humor and a great role model to kids. Biggest, most feared, badass on the field and a helluva good guy off the field. Great Butkus story; When I lived in Ventura CA, Steve Thomas BMW was one of my customers. Dick was great friends with Steve and did local BMW TV ads together. Every year, my distributor would have a huge golf tournament for vendors
