What are the top 5 most important prophetic revelations from God in the past 20 years?

Despite your best efforts, I think we're all agreed with the conclusion that discussing religion with your folks won't end well for anyone. As tempting as it is to bring up topics, I think it best to avoid this now and focus the relationship on other things.

Seems like the truth was actually on their side. How would TBMs now spin this following the release of the polygamy essay?

I've said all along, those TBMs that read it will more than likely be very uncomfortable. Sadly most won't come across it. You'd think that such important clarifications of doctrine & church history would be highlghted at GC or from the pulpit in sacrament meeting etc but the reality is that while TSCC gives the impression that it wants (has been forced) to be more open, in reality it does

Great points twistedsister. When all is said & done and debated until the cows come home, polygamy makes no sense whatsoever and the apologist will likely eventually retreat to the old line of 'God commanded it, he knows best so we just have to obey'. Except 1) This causes signficant issues with the nature of God and the root of moral reasoning 2) How do we really know it's come from God w

Based on my own experience I'd guess that the majority of members (perhaps 80%) wouldn't have known about JS polygamy. Out of the group that do know, I'd say another 80% of those aren't aware of just how many wives, ages of some of the younger ones and the polyandry. So based on my very rough anecdotal and totally non-scientific guesses, the number of members that know all of the above would

"making it impossible to reconstruct her thoughts"........................ .........but apparently it's not impossible to try and reconstruct JS's own thoughts without such firsthand accounts........as long as they excuse his poor behaviour.

I definitely think that many of those TBMs that read it will be concerned. 1) This will be news to a lot of members that have never heard these things in correlated lessons and countless talks and firesides. And not just any old TBMs, there will be missionaries, longstanding members and a lot of local church leaders introduced for the first time to JS's polygamy/polyandry 2) It's a poorly

And I guarentee that all the TBMs now proudly displaying their underwear on Facebook would have been mortified about the idea of even mentioning anything so 'sacred' to non-members the DAY BEFORE church PR published the YouTube clip. But like brainless sheep they bow their heads, bleat and blindly follow.

I see that some TBMs are now sharing this on Facebook. Are they nuts? Even in my most TBM days I would never share something so embarrassing with no-mo friends as my religious undies. These people have no shame at all and they completely deserve any ridicule that comes their way. Bunch of loonies.............in big magical undies.

And I wonder how many of the 36% that do attend actually believe or are just going through the motions for family/social and other NOM reasons.

And right there is the crux of the problem. TBMs blindly love their church, gush over everything their leaders say and imagine that everyone else will feel the same way. The vast majority of non-members find Mormonism weird, insignificant, unimportant and self-promoting.

An excerpt from a recent stake presidency letter encouraging members to attend stake temple week: "Have you ever considered that your temple recommend serves as a passport to the celestial kingdom, and that the temple is literally an embassy of that realm on Earth? Think on that for a moment. To spend a week walking nigh unto heaven, doing work of eternal significance, and bringing that e

When I heard the quote I was actually thinking that you'd probably learn a huge amount more about Jesus from a first hand source, compared to those who never knew him and just made stuff up centuries later.

1) while you likely won't have anyone to talk to in the ward, there are many people who have experienced very similar things to yourself around the world, so you have definitely come to the right place here. 2) your daughter is still very young, so there is no immediate rush to perhaps make any knee-jerk decisions. Probably best to take things fairly slow and considered at this moment in time, e

Comp & I were emergency transfered when HQ found out we were teaching a murderer (after MP interviewed them for baptism). First Presidency refused baptism and we were transfered the next morning with instructions to destroy all records of the investigator. It was a bit of an overreaction as we certainly in no danger whatsoever.

I'd rather a God that asks us to pick marigolds than one who asks us to wear them so we can clean TSCC toilets (nb- marigolds is a British slang term for rubber gloves)

I must admit that I unfortunately missed GC and the opportunity to listen to the world's only true & authorised prophets, so can anyone please provide a list of the profound revelations and prophecies that God/Jesus decided that the world needed to receive at this time? I'm guessing there was a lot of talk about Syria, the threat of Islamic fundamentalism, the rise of secularism, Ebola, th

Just spotted one from someone that used to be quite NOM and a lot of fun. That changed in recent months when they opted to batten down the hatches and become completely stalwart TBM rather than face the challenging questions that one should ask when a close friend decides to leave the church. I did smile though as like the OP, the very first comment from a non-member was that at first they tho

The fundamental issue with their approach to 'faith & belief at all costs' is that their arguments could just as easily convince someone of any other faith to stick with their own religion and NOT join the church.

Even in my most ardent TBM days I would have never had the slightest desire to pay and watch a movie about mormons. Heck, even if I was faced with the choice of watching 'MTM' or 'Transformers 5' / 'Marley & Me 2' or 'Grace of Monaco', I'd probably find some obscure positive rays of sunshine regarding Michael Bay's use of sound effects, how dogs can be cute and how at least Grace Kelly ha

Yes I sadly know of a handful of Bishops/SPs and SP councillors that have had affairs (mostly with other members). Many were initiated by the leader, but I'm aware of some needy women that have apparently made the first move... some of a more predatory nature even stalking until they get what they're after. So, yes, church leaders are certainly not as immune as TBMs would like to think so,
