BlueOrchid said "a compliment is a gift" - I concur completely! But I'm taking it a bit further. Mormonism has ZERO concept of "gift economy". The entire mindset is "contract economy" and balance ("Equality in all things"). Gifts, per se, (am I using that right?) do not exist in the LDS cosmology. So, a compliment "Very nice dress" cannot

I have so *little* trust for LDS representatives, that it wouldn't surprise me to see a big media event rolled out for when he *does* meet with a group of "exMormons" Except they wouldn't be real ex-mormons. It would be a set-up made to convince existing believers that doubting is futile. Other theories on how it will be handled? Maybe some suggestions for pre-emptive countermea

That being said, may I propose a thought experiment? Imagine you have the ability to travel in time, as many times as you want, to any time that you want. If you've already been to one place, you won't be able to see that "other you", and any time you spend "in the past" does not cause you to age at all, and will not affect the course of history in any way. Give that, c

A while ago, I had a bit of a facebook-faceoff about mormonism being Christian or not...and a good family friend said something interesting. She said that her identity is so tied up with her church that anything that "attacked" that also attacked her personally. I've been thinking about this a LOT lately. Right off the bat, of course, I see the cultic implications; loss of self-i

Point taken, but how tough would it be to have a preference setting for "show/don't show avatars"? If the board software (phorum, it looks like) supports it, it would be an easy win-win.

I would say this is a "law" (maybe more a "rule of thumb"?) that applies to international politics every bit as well as to families or organizations.

Ronas: When you feel connected to her, you feel the passion for her, the love, the joy of being part of her life - and you get turned on by it. Does she get like that? Does she get turned on by being close to you? I can't imagine she wouldn't...but it sounds like she's seriously suppressing it. Oh...and since she's TBM, you might do a bit of a bible study on the Song of Solomon. *

Salt will help, too - especially when you don't have milk available. Pour some into the palm of your hand and lick it up. You'll feel better quickly.

Really? I'm surprised to hear that...ok, I'll break it down for you. Item #7 is (my paraphrase): "Oil takes millions of years to develop from biomass. Oil exists, therefore the earth is more than 6,000 years old." This 20th century invention creates oil from biomass. (I'm not sure how long, but for benefit of the doubt, I'll grant "within the inventor's lifetime" and
