When the Watchtower opens a new area or needs additional help to expand an area, the folks are called "pioneers". This is from the official JW website. I think of this term too in the JW context as I have known a few ex-JWs. Their stories are identical to ours using a slightly different vocabulary. "The term “pioneer” often refers to those who explore new territories

Amazingly funny quote from Holland. I have told this story before. When I founded exmormon.org, "mormon.com" was an available name I could of purchased at the time. The cost was $75.00. I felt using mormon.com was a bit misleading so I did not buy it and after all, it was $75.00, a sum I just did not want to spend. A porn site bought the name and they were bought out by som

It is shocking how fast this hits. I will continue to miss work for awhile. Fortunately there are some great folks covering for me at work. This antibiotic is effective and I will hopefully not have to be readmitted. Each day without a fever is great. It was so sad to read of the missionary dying. I hope our little advertising will warn Mormons that they need to make sure their sons a

Whoa Tweed You must of been living under a rock. Next door to my sister's former cabin was a lesbian couple who have been together over 40 years. You do not find a more devoted couple anywhere. We last saw them 2 years ago when we when to Michigan and visited them for awhile. Both have some trouble walking now and it was apparent they were watching out for each other carefully and lovingly.

Batmania This thread was started earlier by you and deleted, yet you started another one knowing we can not watch all the time. This topic is closed. The folks who posted in response are correct.

On Monday I had a biopsy performed at a urologist's office. On Tuesday I started feeling very weak and by the evening severe chills and uncontrollable shaking. I could not drink a glass of water without spilling. My wife drove me to the hospital in Chattanooga. We had to wait in the emergency for a bit. As soon as I was in the ER they noted my fever, low blood pressure and shortness of breat

The law firm is aware. If they don't fix it I will take it down later this week. That was the link they wanted us to use

I don't believe it will take long for the Mormon church to issue a statement of some kind regarding missionary health after this is publicized. They like to tout that the number of deaths is smaller than the population as a whole for their age group. They do not publicize the returned missionaries' health statistics after a mission. Many of us experienced significant depression as a result of

We are doing something for the first time. A small ad will appear on the first page of the site. It results from numerous discussions with a law firm over the past few months. They are actively pursuing cases where the Mormon church has abused its missionaries by denying proper medical care while on their missions. They already have several suits started as a result of exmormon.org. It is

One that stands out is removing garments for the last time. It is an act of freedom. Even 20 years later it still feels wonderful to wear shorts and a t-shirt in the summer. The stifling garments left a lifetime impression.

We got out of the habit of shutting down to give the admins a break. I want to get back to having our monthly break. The board has been running great. Thanks for so many thoughtful and well written threads. This is an amazing group. I hope to get back to archiving and site upgrades after summer. With over 1,500,000 posts and a few thousand archived topics, there is no shortage of things

You need to move to Tennessee. Although there has been some rain, our apparent righteousness has given us wonderfully cool weather. You must all have sin in your lives up there in the Pacific northwest :-).

Similar entire passages of Isaiah are found in the book "View of the Hebrews". In the Book of Mormon, Isaiah passages appear to be filler pages to make the book longer. Oliver Cowdery lived in the town as the author, Ethan Smith, of the View of the Hebrews. There is no direct evidence, but the similarities are striking. It is rather obvious the View of the Hebrews likely played a

Sigh... Here is #9 "When converted, you look forward to paying your tithing. You view it as a privilege and feel that 10 percent is not that much, especially compared with the blessings and satisfaction you gain. These blessings are worth much more than the money you paid."

I am sorry this is happening to you. Nearly all of us have experienced this. In my story, I comment that an old Mormon friend of 20 years called me asking if I was interesting in working on an engineering project with him. I mentioned to him that I had left the church. He commented, "The only people who leave the church have sin in their life." He then immediately hung up. A 20

It has been years so my info may be out of date regarding the never changing policies and doctrines of this church. I ran into a member who had been disfellowshipped. He told me they do not excommunicate any more as they found that people who are excommunicated usually do not return to the church. If one is simply disfellowshipped, he or she often return to full activity. He died recently a

The lying is becoming more blatant. It is a sign of desperation in my opinion. Great catch Baura!

Sorry. That has to be tough. It is unfortunately common. The cult does not care about families.

I highly recommend "Written by the Finger of God". It was the final nail to the coffin of Mormonism for me regarding the Book of Abraham. What a ridiculous book. I wanted to read some Mormon apologetics and this was recommended by Deseret Book. HSA must of commented on that as a joke.
