Maybe that's a northeast thing. I moved to NJ a few years back and it seems like TSCC density here is much lower.

I was reading through some exmormon stories on here and I've noticed that in a lot of stories, those who left often ran into TBMs around town and had a lot of guilt and anxiety running into them. I grew up on Long Island and we never ran into anyone we knew besides at church. I left the church right after high school and never went on a mission, so for me leaving was just a function of not ever

I left the church when I went to college so I never even considered going on a mission. Add to that, my brother served his mission in South Central, LA. Zero rivalry. I spent the summer in Europe between my Junior and Senior year instead.

I'm 37 years old today. The New Yorker article about the BOM piqued my curiosity about the topic and I found you guys. I was raised in a Mormon family. My older brother served on a Mission and my Mom was pretty devout; She'd take us every Sunday to the ward, Thursday nights for Basketball. She was my Seminary teacher, the whole 9 yards.
