"The church-owned Deseret Ranches is going through the bureaucratic process in Florida to win approval to transform rural farmland, used for 65 years to raise cattle, into a metropolis of a half-million residents within a 133,000-acre corner of Osceola County, not far from Orange County, the home of the world-renowned Disney resort in Orlando.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, the project would be the biggest development ever planned in Florida. The Sentinel reported the Florida Department of Environmental Protection issued a statement saying the development would cause no "adverse impacts" to water, wetlands and wilderness."

Paul Rolly refers to a statement made in the Orlando Sentinal but I couldn't find anything recent. Here is a statement from the Orlando Sentinal in 2013:

"AgReserves Inc., a taxpaying company of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will maintain timber and agricultural uses of the Panhandle acreage, according to the announcement.

AgReserves has demonstrated its commitment to wise land stewardship and prudent resource management during more than 60 years of ranching and agricultural operations in east central Florida," said Paul Genho, chairman of AgReserves. "We will apply that same commitment and expertise to managing the property we are acquiring in Florida's panhandle.

Owned by the church for nearly 60 years, Deseret Ranches sprawls across Orange, Osceola and Brevard counties and is increasingly seen as critical to the Orlando region's water supply, road and rail network and future development."

this use of land is really different than what I thought it was intended for. Here in morridor it's generally believed that cojcolds is accumulating ammo, farm land, resources, food for the end of the world apocalypse. I guess we were wrong on that one.

Is building residential houses the 4th mission of the church now? next to redeeming dead people?

No no no no no.. you're not getting it!

They want to build houses for all those mormons, when 'the end of times' hits!

The profit must have had a revelation that the new Zion is going to be in Florida, except he's under strict orders to not tell anyone yet until the time is right!

tsss...

obvious..

Only if you're within 50 feet of the water or in a Cuban nightclub...

Otherwise Florida is HELL on earth.

Just like changes to the temple ceremony, changes to the B of M and other books over he years etc., God and Jesus change too. To LDS Inc the answer to the question: "What would Jesus do?"

He would invest in real estate! Jesus loves trickle down economics!

Good thing they don't believe in global warming and a rise in sea level. It could circumcise the peninsula and salt their groundwater.

That's exactly why they want to develop it and get their payout now....flashback to ol' Joe's land speculation days in Independence, Kirkland, and Nauvoo.... Land speculation has always been an integral part of the Mormon path to riches.

So how much did they pay for all that land!?? How much is a acre there! The morg isn't a religion, it's a corporation disguised as a religion.... And it's tax exempt as well!!

Look at Provo, Spanish Fork, etc. Farm land is devoured for housing.

Like California, that is exactly what Florida needs, another subdivision.

What are the consequences to the environment when the church starts clearing forests for farm land and for wood? How will fishing and oysters along the gulf be affected? What do Utahans know about coastal environments?

I wonder if the sell of the homes reverts back to the church after 100 years like the concept at city creek. Concept is inline with the Churches philanthropic "offering" which screws their posterity. They want you to focus on dead ancestors, raise TBM and pay pay pay then f@ck off. Latter day my butt.

Would it not be ironic if all this property is sold to the majority of people living in Florida .... TBB.....Total Believing Baptists.
