If one doctor can't or won't help you go to another. All pain has to be caused by something i believe. You just have to keep pushing to find the answers to the mystery. Not everything is simple to see and fix like a cut on your arm or a broken bone. He kind of motivated me a lot more cause he had pain where i did for 5 years and nobody believed him but we both found that acupuncture works pretty good for pain that doctors can not pinpoint. So yea even if i myself talk suicidal or whatever because of pain and cold weather, do not listen to me just like you don't listen to a mormon just keep pushing, even if it doesn't count for anything as my friend used to always say. Try to get the last laugh. It kind of hits a chord with me when i hear about teenage mormon suicide because that is where it began for me. I do understand what that religion does to you if you choose to live along side it instead of ending it all to escape. But maybe thats why i choose to live, maybe i can show a better way to those people eventually. I actually don't feel like a complete idiot with doctors anymore i understand things a little more having tried to repair myself for a while now. Feel like i am in reality more then before. Hopefully i can reach a certain point pretty soon here to give me confidence so i am not b#tching every two seconds to vent my frustrations that i never do in the real world hardly. Does jesus take over bodies and talk through them, the MRI tech just gave me the perfect info for an issue that i had and that he had, what the hell are the chances of that? F#ckin hell i lost my mind.

Howdy Badass. I, personally, am glad that you have a place to vent, bitch, question, and post. As always, my deepest hope for you is that you’ll experience physical recovery and find peace now that you’ve left the cult.

Adam, your posts reflect the whole range of human emotions. Why, because you’re a real man! Thanks for being who you are, thanks for being earthy with me, thanks for being a friend, and most important, thanks for being a real badass in putting up with the pain and shit you’re going through! Big brohugs! The Boner.

I do want to feel like a complete man boner. I want to see a man in the mirror without fear or pain anymore. I do think i am getting there. My mind kind of got stuck in teenager mode and i have to get out of that mindset totally somehow with counseling.

I love you, man! And, I get it. I’m going in for my ninth surgery in ten years (nothing too serious) in a couple of weeks. Nothing would make me happier than to know that my Badass friend is out of pain.

Like you, I suffer from debilitating pain. Mine is from an old spinal fracture that has turned arthritic on me. There isn't really anything that can be done. A "pain specialist" injected a combination of steroids, anti-inflammatories, and one of those meds that ends in "aine" - I forget which - cost a lot of money, not covered by insurance, and didn't do squat.

I'm retired, so I have the luxury of being able to sleep as late as my body needs to, nap if I want to, and I have pretty well learned my limits as far as activity goes. I don't like it, but I have come to terms with it.

I'm much farther out of the Mo-church than you are, but there are still other issues I have to work with. So please accept a high-five from this creaky old exmo, and keep on truckin'!

Have you ever tried acupuncture? I learned it might be the only thing that can turn the volume down on pain problems that the doctors can't figure out. Even if its nerve pain it seems to help.

Excellent advice from the MRI Tech! I have had a number of family members who have dealt with chronic pain. Most have gotten better, no thanks to pain pills or preventive meds.

I know nothing about your situation, so I have no medical insight. But I just want to say I know how hard it is. Well, I guess I don't, because it wasn't me. But I've witnessed how hard it is, as I've helped them through it.

Don't give up or lose hope. Keep finding ways to take care of your body AND your emotional well-being, because the two are intertwined. Move forward, as much as you can, with the things you want to do in life. Because some of the side affects of chronic pain or illness can include social isolation and falling behind on your goals (which can lead to regret and loss of confidence or purpose). But also modify expectations so you can rest or do whatever you need to get better.

I definitely have not relied solely on doctors for advice. They tend to focus on xrays/mri's/imaging, labwork, and pills. Which is completely necessary for correct diagnosis. But when it comes to things like headaches, fibromyalgia, and residual pain from injuries, I think they come up short. At that point, I turn to chiropractors, massage therapists, even focusing on mindset and attitudes that will reduce stress and bring fulfillment (and distraction from pain).

As a practicing physician, seeking to understand the complexities of pain and pain syndromes, this physician, Daniel J. Clauw M.D., helped me along the way:

The presentation is one perspective that helps us understand the complex aspects of pain. I cannot think of another symptom complex that can involve such complex neurological, endocrine, nutritional, and musculoskeletal, variables. Complex inputs require multifactorial solutions. I would try to find a competent clinician that practices Integrative Medicine. Email me if you want more detailed information.

I like how he said if nothing shows up in an x-ray or mri the pain is not necessarily psychological pain. That is a big deal because a lot of doctors have made me feel it was all in my head but another doctor would do something different like a blood test and find a problem there. It is not always in the head making it up.

Even IF some physical pain is based in psychological pain, it's still real pain.

Telling someone else that their pain is all in their head is a cruel form of gas lighting, in my opinion.

As far as testing for pain syndromes, this article about Chronic Fatigue might interest you (as it often goes hand in hand with Fibromyalgia).
