As some of you know Draper and south Sandy have had "issues" in the past due to swinging groups and open marraiges. I was talking to my sister this morning about what she sees and knows regarding the subject and it is mindboggling.
She lives just below the new Draper temple. In her neighborhood, she can list, by name and house, those couples who are currently involved with or have been involved with the local swinging scene. Her best friend that lives across the street has mentioned that her husband wants to try it out but she's not too sure about it. Supposedly he works out at a health club nearby and a lot of the people there are really into it and they have offered this lady and her husband a "non-threatening" way to start off slow and see what they think. My sister didn't know what to say other than to remember her temple covenants.
Out of 12 households on their block 8 couples have either been involved in the swinging scene or had affairs with other neighbors. One lady, who lives 2 doors down from my sister, is a "personal massuese" and operates out of her home. She tells my sister about her regulars and how they are freaks that complain about their wives' "skills" and need someone to "assist" them with their needs. A majority of her clients live in their Stake and she goes to church on Sunday and pretends, just like everyone else involved in the lifestyle, that she is a TBM stay-at-home mom with 2 kids. Her husband is cool with it because she tapes every encounter and he enjoys watching her work and the extra $$ helps. Of those 8 couples mentioned earlier, 5 are going through a divorce or are separated.
She said that she and her husband have been approached by a few friends and while not openly asking if they were interested, it was clear where the conversation was headed if they were open to it. I asked her how she handles it when her friends are involved and she said that all she can do is feel sorry for the kids. She said that she thinks one of her neighbors writes a blog about their experiences with other couples and it creeps her out knowing her friend/neighbor publishes her sex life on her blog.
After our conversation I can't help to think about the phrase, "All is well in Zion."
