There's an actual, physical box in TSCC's possesion that they claim held the plates?

Now imagine what the world would look like if there wasn't a God and millions of deluded souls weren't operating their lives as if there were. Ahhhhhhhh.......one can dream.

I just finished reading that book a couple months ago. Awesome book that put into plain words what I grew up with (my mom is mostly Queen and Witch, with a little bit of Waif and Hermit mixed in). Also, "Hard to Love" is a decent book about male BPD. My mother likely developed BPD as a result of living in a extremely narcissistic environment where her parents ate, drank, and sle

Last year, through a DNA test, I found out the father I was raised by wasn't my biological father. When I confronted my mom about it she said she had confessed to her bishop and stake president 35 years ago (when the affair took place). She said they forgave her and told her not to tell my dad because they thought it would be too traumatic for him. This story was also recently backed up my my

My wife just sent me this link. The defensive comments at the bottom are both disturbing (a reminder the LDS mindset is still alive and well), and hilarious. http://youngmormonfeminists.org/2014/08/21/a-modest-proposal-for-byu-friendly-gay-marriage-cards/comment-page-1/#comment-173066

I don't get the randomness. I emailed msr-confrec@ldschurch.org on April 6th, 2014 and followed up, in person, with the bishop about 6 weeks later (gave him a copy of the email), but I still have not recieved any confirmation. Whatever. As far as I'm concerned I'm done.

He claims the stake president made the ultimate decision to not let me sit in, which is why I challenged him to do the right thing and stand up to the sp. I wanted to include this snarky quote in that paragraph (referencing the sp to the bishop), but my wife wisely advised me to keep the email professional. “When our leaders speak, the thinking has been done. When they propose a plan–it

Are you a former bishop? I haven't taken time to search your posts but I seem to recall people referring to you as being a bishop who recently left the church. If that's the case, thanks for the comments. If somebody at your level could break free, there's hope for everybody.

original thread: http://exmormon.org/phorum/read.php?2,1243915,1243915#msg-1243915 I just sent this email to the bishop. This should get interesting. Bishop xxxxxxxxx: Thank you for calling me last week to discuss this. I have taken a few days to think about our conversation. I am disappointed and saddened at your decision to exclude me from an interview you wish to conduct, alone, in

There's a pretty good, free debunking handbook that that talks about the information backfire effect. It's only 6 pages, but there's a lot of "ah ha's" in there about why it's so hard to get a TBM to see the light. http://www.skepticalscience.com/Debunking-Handbook-now-freely-available-download.html

What I'll probably end up doing is not push it any further. I could use it as an opportunity to teach my boys that what these men are doing is wrong and they're doing it through direct revelation, in the name of God. I should probably welcome this situation as an unexpected but wonderful gift. I will post an update after my conversations with these two tools.

I was thinking of maybe emailing the Trib or something like that. Clearly what's going on here is highly inappropriate, but I wonder if it's so commonplace in Utah that no media outlet would find it newsworthy on any level. I want to shine a spotlight on this. At the very least I will have words with both the bishop and sp, but I sure would like to see that humanity outside of our circle o

Spot on. Your thought is one of my 2 main reasons for wanting to sit in. Here's some comic relief. The bishop called me twice today. In the first conversation I expressed to him that I remembered myself as a teenager, sitting in front of a grown man who represented himself as having authority from a God to make decisions for hundreds of people, and how intimidating that was. So of course a

Thank you for the offer. I really am fine. I have no problem standing up against all that is wrong with that organization. But it's a delicate balance. I think everybody understands that the harder you push kids one way, the harder they'll push back the other way. I don't want to push so hard that my 12 year old (and my other kids) become more determined to stay on the "straight and nar

Of course not. I knew right away that when I called the bishop back that I would tell him he is not allowed to meet with my son unless I am present, but I wanted to let my wife know first. Her and I have a great relationship and I owe her that respect. My thinking right now is on a higher level. What would the general public think of this mentality?

I had the same thought, but then had to catch myself. If a parent had something to hide, he/she could simply forbid the child to even meet the church "leader." This is about being a responsible parent, IMO. TSCC follows the scouting rule of "two deep," they require two adult teachers in any environment with children in sunday school, so why on earth would they think it's o

Here's the original thread. http://exmormon.org/phorum/read.php?2,1243915 Wow......so the bishop just called me back. He said he talked to the Stake President and was told I could not sit in on the interview. He said the privacy of the interview is intended to create an environment for the child to feel open to expressing personal issues. I was speechless, so I told him I would talk to m

The two deep leadership policy in Scouting is an excellent point. The more I think about this the more I'm stunned that TSCC hasn't adopted a similar policy. From what my wife tells me they now require two teachers to be in a room when teaching children/primary. Why on earth would there be less chance of abuse with a bishop being alone in a room with ONE child. Even with only one teacher

You're exactly right. I think he's pretty young and hasn't been doing this more than a year or two. He means well, but in his ignorance it's interesting to see the underlying Mormon arrogance bubble to the surface.

Love the quote. How can he argue with that? It will be interesting to see what he chooses to do when I give him the option of either letting me sit in on the interview or my son doesn't get the priesthood. I put all my money on the fact they won't decide to keep something as important as the priesthood away from a fledgling recruit just because his father wants to sit in on the interview.

My 12 year old son has decided to get the priesthood. I want to be able to sit in on his interview with the bishop for a couple reasons. 1 - I remember the powerful influence an adult, who represents himself as having God's power and authority to make decisions for all the people in the ward, had on me as a youth. I would give whatever answer this guy wanted to hear. I think it's unreas
