I like this church a lot. I come from Congregationalist stock and that led me to check it out, aside from the fact it was a very inclusive church. I was pleasantly suprised that the particular congregation I go to has its roots in the old German Reformed Church, which I was familiar with from my time living in Germany. I would reccomend it.

I was in such a short time - four years - I think I was at step 2 when I was baptised. I thought sometimes about the folks who were deep in and left but not for long because I could not fathom it. Then I realized what I walked away from to get INTO the LDS church and I get it. Well done you guys.

There was a house in my wife's friends resort that was bought by two gay guys. They were latino, and they put their house number on a sign with two ducklings on it. Now if you know what "Pato" means in Puerto Rico, you get it. Most of us did. They were cool guys.

Indeed....I don't think the LDS church could completely escape from the collective unconscience. Have a good night.

I am a rank amateur in the ex-mo realm but I found your story to be as genuine as the day is long. Nice to know ya and peace.

Ya know, this is one area where my LDS experiences were not faulty. My son is autistic and I would take him to church. He was treated like gold, really. The bishop's counselor would sit in primary the times I took him to chruch and allow my boy to run his hands through his Abasalom-like curly hair. They said I could baptize him if I wished but I said that he really wouldn't "get it".

Well put - wikipedia article went on along those lines. Indeed, "First, knowing that one is a part of this group is used to make sense of the world. When one associates with a particular group, those in the group focus on the similarities between the members. This is different from people not in the group. For "outsiders" differences are focused upon and often exaggerated. A pr

Hi all See above - I am actually kind of surprised to find that I really am in some kind of a recovery at this point but upon further reflection I messed myself and my situation up a little more than I thought I did by joining the LDS church and giving it the best I could for some time. Part of my recovery is realizing that the LDS CHURCH WILL NEVER CHANGE INTO SOMETHING REAL. I will never

Thanks very much to all. I also wish to say that I don't have bitter hateful feelings. There was a lot in LDS church that still appeals to me and I feel like the scribe in the Bible who can pull those out whenever I like. That said, the rest of it is toxic for me and a lot of other people and, as such, should be seriously examined as befits a professing christian church.

Guys - visited the new ward. A truly joyless place it was. Met the bishop and was immediately asked if I was endowed and was interested in a calling. I said I would make an appointment to discuss this. This was a service focusing on a returned missionary and his family. Put me the hell to sleep, but not before I remembered a similar SM where a good friend of mine's wife ran sobbing out of th

Hi All - I think it is finally time to hang it up and resign. I would like very much, however, to find some way to suck my extensive geneaology info off of familysearch without having to write it down. Has anyone done this and can tell me how - THANKS!

Yup, one of the greatest science fiction books since Dune and Valis, in my opinion. I greatly enjoy reading it but know it is a hoax.

This wouldn't be in N. Virginia, would it? Stake is having a special meeting in a couple weeks and I am pretty sure its gonna be about "self-sufficiency", i.e money.

Hi All: Well, BA is gonna move away in the next few months so I am thinking this might be a good time to walk away from LDS. Not that I have a lot of bad feelings, it just seems like I need something more Christ-centered, Biblical, charitable, less cultish, and willing to tolerate the pleasure I take in some Mormon scriptures and writings. I am asking for suggestions as to where I could

e.g. "I ask you not to make plans in connection with weddings and funerals that would cause you to go deeply into debt. Avoid extensive travel and expensive feasts. Excessive debt will weaken or prevent your ability to pay tithing, to attend the temple, and to send your children on missions. Make plans that will strengthen - not weaken - your future church activity" I like the fe

Hi - the LDS in Africa discussion a couple days put me in mind of the article in the March Ensign that seemed directed towards African members of the church or, somewhat at least, to domestic Mormons concerned about how 3rd world expansion reflects on the church. It was kind of surreal reading it, having spent time in Nigeria, Ghana, Mozambique, S. Africa, and Zimbabwe. I think the church will
