Please don't call them breeders. The reason is mainly due to lack of independence. I got out of BYUI at 23 and didn't have a good solid job until 25. So by them I could actually think for myself and have some space not to just worry about school and getting a job.

I think it become harmful when you try to play the what if game to change the past. The past is useful to learn from, but trying to change the past is counter productive. We can only learn from the past to change our future.

What you fail to realize is that many of us are past it, and we still strive to help people people who are leaving, help the church become better, point out the harmful things the church still teaches. Many of us have been damaged, we don't have to move past it, we can embrace it and move us to the hope that someday the church won't be hurting anyone. We fight for that day, not because we lay all

Stop the conspiracy theory. Most people don't think it will go anywhere period. Don't let you bias confuse you. There's very small chance it will be successful.

There is nothing unique to Mormonism both the good and the bad are readily available. I know it's a common saying that the things that are good aren't unique to the church, but what is unique to the church isn't good. I really think that there is really nothing unique to the church. People believe in eternal marriage, eternal progression, heavenly mother. People believe in all these things

Not for me. I figure out Joesph was a conman. Then I figured out how to process reality for myself. Then I realized the church is harmful. Then I realize all churches are harmful. Then I figured out god wasn't real. Then I figured out what atheist meant. Then I realized I was atheist. In that order.

"Scouting teaches a boy to take care of himself and stand on his own two feet. It is an inspired program for a demanding time." President Ezra Taft Benson I like this one the because it show that these qualities are some how less important for girls.

The desire to change people. I'm still working on this. I have been taught from birth to be a missionary and to preach the truth. It's very hard for me because I feel compelled to make moral stands all the time, but now I resist the urge because I realize I need to allow other people their space.

A stake conference was the place that I first started to question. I had a stake president get up and state 'The small things in early church history aren't important to God's work on earth' A few weeks later I taught "Book of Mormon" by Ted Collister (might be spelled wrong) He gave the it's either true or false, no middle ground statement. Basically this type of comment got the ge

I got involved in new agism for a while. I was big on Eckhard Tolle, I still think he says some cool things. I read some other books in the new agism. I still wanted to be spiritual, but quickly realized that the bible really isn't reality, and isn't a good moral basis either. So I just dropped the whole things. Now I'm atheist.

I attended for a few months as a non-believer before I came out to my wife and stopped going. It was awful. The pioneer stories are gut wrenching as a non-believer. People dying for a conman and BY the tyrant, makes me cry inside. I heard the story about Thomas Marsh and wanted to scream. I was at a 5th Sunday missionary lesson. The teacher claimed that if you aren't doing missionary work

220 trillion is not the time when scientist believe heat death will happen. You seem really intent on proving religion with science. You do realize that the Greeks had a lot of things figured out by the time Islam was being developed. The Koran has the same vague non-specific information about the universe that every other scripture text says. Retrofitting facts to religious text is pretty easy.

I felt like that when I was an active member. Sometimes I'd just stop going for about a month at a time. I wouldn't pick up when my home teaching campaign called. Nothing. So I did feel a little sheepish attending church because I felt like I might have burned some bridges. I could definitely see some members not attending because they don't feel able to compete with the Jones. There's a

I remember my brother in law said they took his. They said it was because the locals in russia (can't remember more specfic) would take the passport and put missionaries in jail for a couple days. So they kept them for safe keeping.

Most Muslims I know say that you must believe in The God, not just any God. Sounds like you are interpreting the Koran to nonbelievers in a very kind way. In Mormonism we call that lying for the lord. I realize that Islam has similar principals. Oh well, nice use of the word science, I'm not sure if you know what it means. Edit: Response to AEM

That's normally how Mormons use to counter that Joesph Smith was a false prophet. So I'm not sure why that's funny or ironic. I think the big point I normally make is that most Mormons are inactive so the fruits don't seem to be working very well for most Mormons.

I think most of the shunning is a mostly just a genuine disinterest due to a change in values. I really don't want to talk about church, all they want to do is talk about church. So we just don't enjoy each other. There is some out right shunning I have seen by TBMs and Exmos. Not allowing people to attend graduations, babysit, etc... We all think our reasons are justified and they all are ju

Here's the source of the comic. There isn't a religious theme to the comics so I guess this is just a one off, but I really liked it. http://www.stanleycolors.com/2013/12/life-donuts/

Thanks that's good to hear, I'm glad it connected with you too. There isn't anything in it that I would qualify as religious criticism, which is genuinely very difficult to find from atheist content. Does anyone know of a website that has more naturalistic content online? Stuff that wouldn't offend most Mormons? I know that's a tall order and people will be offended just by me talking about i

http://imgur.com/K6EKeRW I posted this on Facebook and I said "it's a nice image about how what an atheist thinks about life" (bad grammar, but oh well) This is my first post about my new reality of life. I'm nervous to see what kind of response I get. It's non-confrontational. I've been looking for something like this for a little while now. I'm really trying to get things th

I think most would be appalled. Most will have a small bit of sympathy for the father and agree that it is an unnatural lifestyle and against gods will. I think most will disagree with his don't call, and get lost attitude.

Sure, we have some obstacles ahead of us. I'd say like all change some I like, some I don't like. All I can do is try to get more of the change I like and stop the change I don't like.

Yeah, I'd say it was always a mix of those things. Individual basis. I believed (had a spiritual experience), I feared (thought that someday I would get in trouble for porn and masturbation), I was happy to be born into the True church (pride).

Really sad to hear that. A restraining order sounds like a good idea. I think you will just have to start distancing yourself from you family. Personally I don't go to big family events. They are all Mormon and if I try to defend myself from the Mormon abuse, I'm seen as the bad guy. That was nice of your sister to inform you.

Ask her if she's sure this is something she wants to do or something she feels like others want her to do. I think be honest about your feelings. Don't pop her bubble about church history or anything, just try to be a caring friend that is there for her.
